This full-time day position offers an opportunity to make a significant contribution to the community by utilizing your clinical laboratory and phlebotomy skills.

POSITION SUMMARY
This role involves supporting technical laboratory personnel and may include responsibilities such as the collection, receipt, and processing of biological samples, preparing specimens for testing, and performing limited testing if the necessary qualifications are met. The position reports to departmental leadership and follows the guidance of senior technical staff.

CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Responsible for processing and preparing patient samples, which includes: 1) collecting specimens while ensuring accurate patient and specimen identification, 2) processing laboratory specimens, and 3) managing referral laboratory samples. Under supervision, may conduct waived and moderate complexity testing while adhering to performance standards. Familiarity with departmental computer systems is essential for tracking and locating specimens and monitoring pending lists. Maintenance of laboratory equipment as directed is also required.

2. Committed to quality assurance by ensuring that all tasks are performed accurately and within departmental timelines. Adheres to productivity and quality standards, and may assist in quality control testing as directed. Engages in identifying and documenting deviations from established procedures and demonstrates problem-solving skills related to quality control and testing.

3. Participates in managing departmental resources by utilizing supplies efficiently and assisting with inventory control. Engages in initiatives aimed at cost reduction and service enhancement.

4. Performs various support tasks as defined by the department, which may include phlebotomy duties and training responsibilities. May assist in updating training materials and procedures.

5. Communicates professionally and effectively with both internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrates proficiency in basic computer operations and problem-solving, alongside strong verbal and written communication skills. Encourages positive interactions that foster teamwork and participates in staff meetings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; must be at least 18 years old for phlebotomy tasks.
  • Progression through career ladder II-IV is contingent upon meeting career ladder requirements.
  • May require DHS Fingerprinting Certification or the ability to obtain it.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy.
  • Phlebotomy/CLA certification as mandated by state regulations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Successful completion of a laboratory assistant training program.
  • Basic understanding of specimen handling and requirements.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Additional relevant education and/or experience is advantageous.
