This full-time day position offers an opportunity to positively impact the community through your expertise in clinical laboratory and phlebotomy.

POSITION SUMMARY
This role supports technical laboratory personnel and may involve the collection, receipt, and processing of biological specimens. Responsibilities include preparing samples for testing and potentially conducting waived or limited moderate complexity tests, contingent upon meeting CLIA minimum standards or receiving approval from the CLIA Medical Director. Reporting to department leadership, this position follows directives from senior technical staff.

CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Responsible for processing and preparing patient samples, which includes:
- Specimen collection with accurate patient and specimen identification
- General laboratory specimen processing
- Referral laboratory processing
May perform waived and moderate complexity testing under supervision, ensuring compliance with performance standards and knowledge requirements. Familiarity with departmental computer systems is essential for tracking and locating specimens and monitoring pending lists. Maintenance of laboratory equipment is also required, adhering to accrediting agency and regulatory standards.

2. Emphasizes quality by ensuring all tasks are performed accurately and within departmental timeframes. Meets productivity and quality standards, may conduct quality control testing as directed, and communicates any technical issues to senior staff. Actively participates in identifying and documenting deviations from established procedures.

3. Engages in departmental financial responsibilities by utilizing supplies and materials efficiently and assisting with inventory management. Contributes to initiatives aimed at cost reduction and service improvement.

4. Performs various support tasks as defined by the department, which may include phlebotomy and training responsibilities. May assist in updating training documents and procedures.

5. Communicates professionally and effectively with both internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrates basic computer skills for inquiries and problem-solving, along with strong verbal and written communication abilities. Promotes a collaborative work environment through positive communication and active participation in staff meetings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; must be at least 18 years old for phlebotomy tasks.
  • Progression through career ladder II-IV is contingent upon meeting specific requirements.
  • Position may require DHS Fingerprinting Certification or the ability to obtain it.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy.
  • Phlebotomy/CLA certification as per state regulations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Successful completion of a laboratory assistant training program.
  • Basic understanding of specimen requirements and handling.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Additional relevant education or experience.
