Position Overview

Summit Pathology Laboratories, Inc. is seeking a dedicated and service-oriented individual to join our dynamic team as a Grossing Specialist.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with our team of Pathologists, Pathologists' Assistants, and departmental leaders to deliver high-quality surgical pathology services.

Compensation: This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a competitive salary range of $22/hr - $26/hr, commensurate with grossing experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work mid-shift hours from 10:30 am to 7:00 pm, alternating between our primary laboratory and a specialized GI laboratory, with occasional coverage for a later shift.
  • Conduct gross examinations of straightforward surgical tissue specimens following our comprehensive training program.
  • Manage test ordering and quality control reviews within the designated Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Access patient information using the EPIC system in the GI laboratory.
  • Effectively communicate workload status to the Pathologist and Pathologists' Assistant.
  • Assist in client communications regarding specimen quality inquiries.
  • Engage routinely with various staff and departments to prioritize surgical specimens.
  • Maintain daily inventory, supplies, cleanliness, and overall organization of the grossing area.
  • Adhere to laboratory safety protocols.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned based on the operational needs of Summit Pathology.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
  • Alternatively, equivalent education/training that includes at least 60 semester hours from an accredited institution, with specific coursework in medical laboratory technology or sciences.
  • All tasks will be conducted within the laboratory environment, in proximity to electrical instruments and chemicals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree with coursework in human anatomy from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of a clinical laboratory training program accredited by recognized organizations or a minimum of three months of documented high-complexity laboratory training for each specialty test performed.

Contractual Terms:
Terms of employment will be determined upon hiring and contract completion.
