Summit Pathology Laboratories, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Histology Laboratory Assistant to join our team. As a Histology Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the timely and accurate distribution of pathology slides.
Key Responsibilities- Slide Preparation and Distribution: Responsible for morning slide turn out and accurate routing of slides for pathologists, including checking off slides in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and Quality Control (QC) system.
- Quality Control: Conducts QC checks of blocks to slides before turn out and ensures that all slides meet the required standards.
- Special Stains and IHC: Completes and turns out IHC and special stains in a timely and accurate manner.
- Communication and Troubleshooting: Answers Histology phones and troubleshoots calls from pathologists, ensuring that all issues are resolved promptly.
- Accessioning and Digital Pathology: Accessions technical only cases and performs digital pathology scanning, troubleshooting, and distribution.
- Ultra Reagent Maintenance: Maintains ultra reagents in good working condition.
- Record Keeping and Filing: Accurately files blocks and unstained slides daily and maintains proper disposal of recyclable materials and trash.
- Team Collaboration: Works cooperatively with team members to identify and complete lab responsibilities and meet department goals.
- Professional Development: Maintains current knowledge and skills applicable to the job assignment through continuing education or professional organizations.
- Education: Associate Degree or higher preferred.
- Experience: One year in a medical laboratory preferred.
- Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of handling chemical and biohazardous materials desired. Basic knowledge of biology and medical terminology required.
- Physical Demands: Medium work-exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently. Involves constant standing, walking, sitting, and movement.
