Legal Counsel for Renewable Energy Projects

Position Overview
Apex Clean Energy is in search of a dedicated Legal Counsel who will collaborate closely with our team of legal professionals to deliver comprehensive legal services to internal stakeholders regarding the acquisition, development, financing, and construction of large-scale renewable energy initiatives.
Role Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the General Counsel, the Legal Counsel will oversee a diverse range of project and corporate legal matters to bolster the Company's mission to develop, construct, own, and operate renewable energy projects.
The ideal candidate will possess a Juris Doctor degree, with a minimum of two years of experience in a law firm or in-house legal setting, particularly in relation to the development of substantial infrastructure projects.
Key Qualifications
Our preferred candidate will have:
- Experience in renewable energy permitting and development, as well as supporting such projects through financing transactions.
- Exceptional analytical skills and outstanding writing abilities.
- A detail-oriented mindset coupled with demonstrated leadership and initiative.
A genuine interest in renewable energy projects is a strong predictor of success in this role.
Daily Responsibilities
The Legal Counsel will engage regularly with members of the Legal and Development teams. The successful candidate will be resourceful and motivated to assist various internal clients, focusing on advancing clean energy projects from development through construction to operational phases.
Additionally, the candidate will exhibit a sense of ownership and a passion for innovation, essential for driving significant improvements in how the company navigates or resolves challenges related to project development.
Core Duties Include:
• Providing legal support and strategic counsel regarding project development for financing, construction, and operational phases.
• Leading and executing local, state, and federal permitting processes for energy projects.
• Negotiating and executing agreements with governmental agencies on matters such as taxation, infrastructure improvements, and environmental mitigation.
• Proactively identifying potential issues and strategically assessing risks.
• Effectively managing permit appeals and other legal proceedings related to development.
• Building and maintaining relationships with external legal counsel while ensuring a balance between usage, efficiency, and cost.
