Position Overview:
The primary responsibility of the Material Handling Specialist is to conduct sampling, oversee the loading and unloading of incoming trucks and railcars, monitor tank levels, and facilitate the transfer of materials within the tank farm on a daily basis. This role reports directly to the Operations Manager and operates on a 7 days on, 7 days off schedule. Given the continuous nature of refinery operations, work hours may include nights, weekends, and holidays.

Compensation:
Starting pay is $26 per hour, with additional shift differentials.

Key Responsibilities:
- Operate powered fork trucks while adhering to load limits.
- Monitor tank levels and manage inventory transfers as required.
- Supervise incoming trucks delivering used motor oil, antifreeze, and oily water.
- Oversee outgoing trucks transporting asphalt and wastewater.
- Ensure safety during loading/unloading operations while product is being transferred.
- Conduct maintenance and housekeeping in the warehouse, truck rack, and dock areas as directed.
- Provide training to relief personnel on operational procedures as necessary.
- Strictly follow safety protocols established by regulatory authorities and the company, ensuring the safety of all personnel.
- Participate in periodic industrial safety training as mandated.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory standards.
- Report all incidents, injuries, or near misses to the supervisor immediately.
- Maintain a commitment to a 'zero-spill' philosophy to protect the environment.
- Inspect equipment for safe and efficient operation, reporting any issues to the Operations Manager.
- Engage in accident or incident investigations as needed.
- Perform general housekeeping duties.
- Utilize basic tools such as pipe wrenches, crowbars, pliers, and screwdrivers.
- Calculate tank levels using basic mathematical skills.
- Communicate effectively using a 2-way radio to respond to calls.
- Coordinate with the Operations Supervisor to ensure daily paperwork is accurate.
- Collaborate with the Refinery Lead operator regarding tank lineups and gauges prior to loading, offloading, or transferring materials.
- Adhere to all procedures for loading and offloading materials.
- Sample incoming trucks according to established procedures.
- Understand and troubleshoot basic pump operations to maintain equipment efficiency.
- Ensure operational and emergency supplies are adequately stocked.
- Operate basic pressure washing equipment.

Qualifications:
- Mandatory experience in a refinery or chemical plant environment, particularly in truck unloading/loading operations.
- Proficient in basic computer functions including email and fax.
- Strong verbal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
