Position Overview

Institution: Simpson University

The Music Department at Simpson University is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual for a full-time faculty role. The selected candidate will take on the responsibilities of Director of Bands, leading the establishment and growth of our newly formed band ensembles, including the inaugural marching band. The department also features a restructured bachelor's degree program that focuses on Christian worship arts, digital music technology, and various instrumental and vocal ensembles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strong administrative oversight for the college's music programming.
  • Oversee all facets of the university's band programs, including recruitment, arrangement, program development, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Lead the development and recruitment efforts for the inaugural marching band, alongside concert, pep, and jazz bands.
  • Organize and conduct effective rehearsals for music ensembles.
  • Offer visionary leadership for music performances both on campus and within the community, including university athletic events.
  • Teach courses in contemporary songwriting, world music, and music history; proficiency in computer music technology and studio recording is advantageous.
  • Provide private instruction on primary instruments.
  • Engage in student academic advising.

Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in music; a master's degree with significant graduate coursework in music may also be considered.
  • Specialization in wind, brass, and/or percussion with expertise in instrumental music and band presentation.
  • Proven excellence in band pedagogy and methods.
  • Experience in recruitment for band and music programs is essential.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Experience in teaching music recording and computer music technology is a plus.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion in working with a varied student population.
  • A personal commitment to faith integration within a Christian liberal arts context is crucial.
