Position Summary

Shasta Head Start is seeking dedicated educational support assistants who possess a strong background in early childhood education. If you are passionate about fostering positive relationships, demonstrating hard work and creativity, and delivering exceptional services to children and families, we encourage you to consider this opportunity. Under the guidance of the classroom teacher, the Educational Support Assistant plays a vital role in aiding classroom personnel in providing nurturing care and educational experiences for children in a Head Start environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist classroom personnel in ensuring a safe, clean, and healthy educational setting.
  • Support compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, federal and state regulations, and licensing requirements.
  • Collaborate with classroom staff to implement developmentally appropriate curricula and assessment methods.
  • Exemplify positive behavior and engage courteously with children, staff, families, and community volunteers to cultivate responsive relationships.
  • Help supervise and manage children within the classroom environment.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development through educational training and resources.
  • Provide assistance as a bus monitor when applicable.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of twelve (12) units in Early Childhood Education or a combination of completed and currently enrolled units totaling twelve.
  • Preferred: Twelve (12) or more Early Childhood Education units, including core subjects: Human/Child Development, Family, Child and Community, and Program/Curriculum.
  • Six (6) months of relevant experience is desirable.
  • Must obtain a Child Development Matrix Permit at the Associate Teacher level or higher within one year of hire and maintain it until the required education is achieved.
  • Current EMSA First Aid/CPR certification is required.
Pre-employment Requirements
  • Valid California Driver's License with a clean DMV record.
  • Criminal background check is mandatory.
  • Pre-employment Strength Assessment.
  • Pre-employment TB test.
  • Up-to-date immunization records for pertussis, measles, and influenza.
Physical Demands

While executing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to manipulate objects, reach with arms, and communicate verbally. The employee may occasionally stand, walk, climb, or balance, and must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds regularly, with the ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
