POSITION SUMMARY

JOB TITLE
Intermediate Educator (Grades 4-8)

PRIMARY ROLE

Delivers an educational curriculum for students in grades 4, 5, 6, and 8, or a combination thereof, and supports other school initiatives as required.


REPORTS TO:
Building Principal

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Instructs students in reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, health, art, physical education, and music, utilizing the curriculum approved by the Board of Education, along with other relevant learning activities. In a departmentalized or open space setting, teaches one or a combination of these subjects as assigned by the principal.
  • Maintains the instructional program in music, physical education, and library skills as presented by specialist educators.
  • Guides students in citizenship, fundamental communication skills, and other general components of the curriculum as mandated by state law and school district regulations.
  • Designs planned learning experiences to engage students and optimize instructional time.
  • Creates lesson plans and instructional materials, providing tailored and small group instruction to meet the diverse needs of each student.
  • Transforms lesson plans into engaging learning experiences to maximize instructional time.
  • Assists in establishing and upholding standards of student behavior necessary for a productive learning environment.
  • Collaborates in setting expectations for student progress and skills, along with assessment techniques.
  • Evaluates students' academic and social development, maintains accurate records, prepares progress reports, and communicates with parents regarding individual student progress.
  • Identifies student needs and collaborates with other professionals to address health, attitude, and learning challenges.
  • Creates a functional and inviting learning environment with input from students.
  • Enhances students' self-esteem by fostering a learning atmosphere that is positive, accepting, and conducive to personal growth.
  • Maintains professional growth through participation in in-service education activities provided by the district and/or self-directed professional development.
  • Contributes to programs for gifted students in accordance with the District Mentally Gifted Minors Program.
  • Conducts basic attendance tracking.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Selects and orders books, instructional materials, and supplies, while maintaining necessary inventory records.
  • Ensures a comfortable classroom environment through effective management of heating, lighting, and ventilation.
  • Supervises students during out-of-classroom activities unless they are with designated personnel.
  • Administers group standardized assessments in line with the district's testing program.
  • Engages in curriculum development and other initiatives within the school and/or district.
  • Participates in district and faculty committees and supports student activities.
  • Plans and coordinates the work of aides, teacher assistants, and other paraprofessionals, as applicable.
  • Completes school and/or district reports, surveys, etc., as requested.
  • May assist in the professional training of future educators.
  • Performs other assigned duties as necessary.

  • Current California Single Subject Physical Education Credential
  • EL Auth/CLAD Certification
