JOB DESCRIPTION

0.5 FTE

The Special Education Resource Instructor is tasked with delivering educational services to students with disabilities, fostering an inclusive and supportive learning atmosphere where students can cultivate critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and become engaged learners and responsible citizens. This role involves maintaining a secure environment, building strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues, and inspiring students to develop the skills necessary for academic success and future educational endeavors. The instructor will adapt, modify, and differentiate instructional materials and utilize effective, evidence-based teaching strategies tailored to meet the diverse needs of each student.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Deliver instruction in core content areas as outlined in the USOE's Core Curriculum, employing research-based methodologies and resources that align with approved learning activities tailored to individual student needs.
  • Administer and evaluate standardized assessments.
  • Facilitate and document Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings.
  • Maintain comprehensive student records in compliance with IDEA regulations.
  • Serve as Case Manager for Special Education students.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all student information.
  • Instruct students in civic responsibility.
  • Adhere to regular and punctual attendance requirements.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional resources, providing individualized and small group instruction to accommodate the curriculum to the child's needs.
  • Translate lesson plans into engaging learning experiences to maximize instructional time.
  • Establish and uphold standards of student behavior necessary for a productive learning environment.
  • Assess students' academic and social development, maintain accurate records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Engage with parents through various communication methods to discuss student progress.
  • Identify student needs and collaborate with other professionals to address health, academic, social, and emotional challenges.
  • Create an effective learning environment through engaging displays and interest centers.
  • Utilize technology and educational tools to enhance student learning.
  • Provide a safe and supportive classroom and school environment.
  • Maintain professional development through district-provided and self-selected educational opportunities.
  • Exhibit professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
  • Act as a positive role model for students.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and team collaborations.
  • Contribute as a member of the special education team.
  • Implement attendance policies and procedures as required.
  • Engage in educator evaluation processes as per district guidelines.
  • Participate in faculty committees and support student activities.
  • Select and order instructional materials; maintain inventory records.
  • Administer group standardized assessments in accordance with state and district guidelines.
  • Model professional standards in interactions with students, families, colleagues, and the community.
  • Understand and comply with relevant laws, district policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills with students, families, and staff.
  • Exhibit proficiency in technology and educational tools.
  • Employ effective problem-solving, organizational, multitasking, and time management skills.
  • Implement effective teaching strategies.
  • Establish and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively.
  • Build and sustain positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community members.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team while also being able to work independently.
  • Possess knowledge of State Core Curriculum and Board of Education guidelines.
  • Exhibit reliable and predictable attendance.
