Job Title: Certified Medical Coder

Howard University is seeking a highly skilled Certified Medical Coder to join our team. As a Certified Medical Coder, you will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and coding procedural information to determine Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance payments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure accurate and complete coding of medical records to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze medical records for completeness and validity of documentation, and contact providers for clarification as needed.
  • Code charges for assigned departments, including Internal Medicine, Surgery, Anesthesia, Ophthalmology, OB/GYN, and Pulmonary.
  • Perform accurate analysis of medical records to obtain necessary information for the appropriate sequencing and assignment of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
  • Collaborate with providers in assigned areas and provide feedback to management regarding documentation issues or reoccurring errors.
Requirements:
  • Recognized certifications as Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA); Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coder Specialist - Physician (CCS-P).
  • A background in a medical environment and extensive knowledge of medical terminology.
  • An understanding of Federal and State rules and regulations as they relate to physician billing.
