Kikiktagruk Inupiat Corporation is seeking a Healthcare Coding Specialist to contribute to a Federal initiative with the Department of Labor's Office of Workers' Compensation Programs (OWCP).
Key Responsibilities:
- Designs and executes projects, assignments, and studies in the domain of healthcare coding.
- Applies current medical and scientific knowledge from reference materials to enhance the OWCP Central Bill Processing (CBP) operations.
- Develops and evaluates methods for assessing the CBP Treatment Suites, linking diagnoses to medical procedures, and implements enhancements based on internal data analysis and external trends in the workers' compensation sector.
- Creates training resources for team members as necessary.
- Identifies new techniques and advancements to ensure precise application of healthcare coding in medical bill processing.
- Provides technical support and training to healthcare providers regarding billing and coding standards, addressing inquiries related to the medical billing system.
- Monitors healthcare service utilization to detect patterns of over-utilization and generates reports with actionable recommendations.
- Engages in OWCP projects aimed at controlling medical expenses.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required; a Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) is mandatory.
- A minimum of 2 years of CPC experience with a medical insurance provider or 5 years of general CPC experience is required.
- Exceptional attention to detail is essential.
- Strong administrative and communication skills are necessary.
- Ability to interact tactfully, confidentially, and professionally with all levels of personnel.
- Must be able to pass a NACI background check.
