Job Summary

YWCA Cass Clay is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Part-Time Shelter Support Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our support services team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of residents in our emergency shelter.

Key Responsibilities
  • Admission and Intake: Admit women and children into the shelter, complete intake paperwork, and provide orientation to shelter policies and procedures.
  • Client Support: Ensure clients are complying with program guidelines and procedures, and provide necessary items such as food and clothing.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of staff and participant interactions, including admittance, daily journal, resident's log, and other reports as assigned.
  • Security and Safety: Ensure the security of the shelter, including locks, security systems, and fire alarm systems. Respond appropriately to alarms and emergency situations, including the use of First Aid and CPR.
  • Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support, including documentation, answering phone calls, and responding to in-person inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
  • Referrals and Resources: Provide information and referrals for clients who require additional resources and support.
  • Emergency Response: Respond promptly and professionally to any emergency or disturbance within the shelter.
  • Shift Coverage: Provide consistent coverage for assigned shifts, working independently and as part of a team to complete all shift tasks.
  • Meetings and Training: Attend scheduled shelter meetings and participate in training and professional development opportunities.
  • Donations and Supplies: Sort and organize donations, and prepare sleeping rooms by cleaning and stocking.
  • Shelter Maintenance: Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the shelter.
  • Deliver Services with Safety, Respect, and Effectiveness: Deliver services with a focus on safety, respect, and effectiveness.
Qualifications
  • Female (BFOQ)
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • Availability to Work Evenings, Weekends, and Holidays
  • Training or Experience in Crisis Intervention
  • CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Excellent Communication Skills
  • Knowledge of Domestic Violence, Homelessness, Mental Illness, Chemical Dependency, and Child Development Issues
  • Meet Background Check Requirements
  • Understanding of and Commitment to the Mission of YWCA Cass Clay
