Part Time Shelter Support Specialist

YWCA Cass Clay is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Part Time Shelter Support Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our shelter staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of our residents.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Admission and Orientation: Admit women and children to the shelter, complete intake paperwork, and provide a thorough orientation to our shelter policies and procedures.
  • Client Support: Ensure clients are complying with program guidelines and procedures, and provide necessary items such as food and clothing.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of staff and participant interactions, including admittance, daily journal, resident's log, and other reports as assigned.
  • Security and Safety: Ensure the security of the shelter, including locks, security systems, and fire alarm systems. Respond promptly and professionally to alarms and emergency situations.
  • Administrative Support: Provide general administrative functions such as documentation, answering phone calls, and responding to in-person inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Referrals and Resources: Provide information and referrals for clients who require additional resources and support.
  • Emergency Response: Respond promptly and professionally to any emergency or disturbance within the YWCA Cass Clay.
  • Shift Coverage: Provide consistent coverage for assigned shifts, working collaboratively with the team to ensure all tasks are completed.
  • Meetings and Training: Attend scheduled shelter meetings and participate in training sessions as required.
  • Donations and Supplies: Sort and organize donations, and prepare sleeping rooms by cleaning and stocking.
Requirements:
  • Female (BFOQ)
  • High School Graduate: 2 years of college in a related human service field or equivalent education/experience required.
  • Availability: Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Crisis Intervention Training: Training or experience in crisis intervention is essential.
  • CPR and First Aid: CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge and Understanding: Knowledge of domestic violence, homelessness, mental illness, chemical dependency, and child development issues is essential. Knowledge of community resources is helpful.
  • Background Check: Meet all background check requirements.
