Emergency Shelter Support Counselor

About the Organization: Compass Family Services is a century-old nonprofit dedicated to addressing the urgent needs of families facing homelessness in San Francisco. Our mission is to provide comprehensive support to families experiencing or at risk of homelessness, ensuring they receive the necessary resources for immediate relief and long-term stability.
About the Team: The Compass Urgent Accommodation Voucher program is designed to offer temporary emergency hotel accommodations for families and expectant individuals in crisis. Beyond providing a safe place to stay, our program connects families with essential services and pathways to secure permanent housing.
Compensation: $28-31 per hour, inclusive of full benefits.
Schedule: 10 am-6 pm, five days a week. We have two available positions: one will work Sunday through Thursday, while the other will work Tuesday through Saturday.
Location: Primarily in-person at designated Compass facilities, with occasional visits to partner hotels.

Position Overview:
The Counselor will manage hotline inquiries and engage with families seeking emergency shelter. Responsibilities include meeting families at hotels for check-ins and addressing any crises that may arise during shifts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to hotline calls and assist families in securing emergency hotel accommodations.
- Provide crisis intervention support.
- Collaborate with the Program Director and Case Manager to manage the program's waitlist.
- Document interactions and updates in Salesforce and other relevant databases.
- Complete necessary site and incident reports.
Qualifications:
- Comfortable working independently and traveling to meet families as needed.
- Understanding of the challenges faced by homeless families and familiarity with trauma-informed care principles.
- Excellent communication skills, particularly over the phone.
- Able to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
- Proficient in computer applications (Microsoft Office, Google Suite); experience with Salesforce is advantageous.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Hourly wage: $28 - $31.

- This position is classified as non-exempt.
