Lead Family Shelter Coordinator

Job Summary:
Mission Action is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Family Shelter Monitor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the shelter site, providing leadership and supervision to shelter monitors, and enforcing all shelter policies for staff and program participants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the safety and security of the shelter site and respond to emergency situations as needed
- Provide leadership and supervision to shelter monitors, coordinating coverage needs and daily assignments
- Consistently enforce all shelter policies for staff and program participants
- Understand and explain shelter rules and grievance policies
- Ensure the implementation of all rules, policies, and organizational expectations
- Schedule shelter hearings
- Make regular reports to shelter management using daily logs, forms, email, and phone calls; provide pertinent shelter data for contract and grant reports
- Report issues requiring repairs and maintenance to the Director of Operations
- Facilitate daily check-in and check-out of guests from the shelter
- Mediate and de-escalate conflicts
- Complete mandated reporter training and certification and report instances of child abuse/neglect as needed
- Remain awake and alert during assigned shifts, and ensure that other night staff are also doing so
- Provide support related to conflict and client issues, including conflict resolution and crisis intervention
- Participate in fundraising and organizing efforts as needed
- Attend organizational and departmental meetings, trainings, and activities
- Maintain a professional attitude and work ethic
- Comply with Mission Action's policies and procedures, and laws pertaining to the operation of Mission Action
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Strong commitment to serving low-income and under-served communities, with an ability to relate to and communicate with a broad range of clients and colleagues
- Trains, supervises, and evaluates full- and part-time shelter monitors
- Consistently enforces all shelter policies for staff and program participants
- Commitment to social justice issues, and familiarity with Mission Action's mission and organizational work
- At least 1 year of experience providing services to low-income, homeless youth and families
- Must be able to remain awake and alert for entire shift
- Written and oral communication in English is required
- Bilingual Spanish is preferred, with the ability to speak and write enough to provide instructions and basic communication
- Basic computer proficiency (MS Word, email, etc.)
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with underprivileged adults or day laborers, LGBTQ and/or immigrant communities, is preferred
- Volunteer experience, customer service experience, and transferable skills will be considered
- CPR/First Aid Certification within 3 months of hire
- Must obtain TB and background clearance upon hire
