Position Overview

The Loudoun County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is looking for a dedicated individual to assume the role of Disaster Preparedness Coordinator. This position plays a vital role in enhancing community resilience through effective partnerships and collaboration. For more information about our Office, please visit our website.

Under the supervision of an Assistant Coordinator, this role encompasses a diverse range of emergency management initiatives within the Planning and Operations Divisions. Responsibilities include developing threat and hazard plans, coordinating training and exercise requirements to support planning efforts, engaging with various stakeholders, representing Loudoun County in multiple workgroups, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

We are in search of a meticulous team player who will:
- Coordinate and develop training and exercise programs;
- Create, implement, and sustain local and regional emergency management strategies;
- Conduct comprehensive research on best practices in emergency management;
- Facilitate a variety of meetings with both internal and external stakeholders;
- Participate in initiatives related to prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery as directed;
- Support emergency incidents in line with OEM policies and procedures;
- Adhere to the policies and procedures of the County as well as state and federal regulations;
- Represent Loudoun County with federal, state, regional, and local organizations and agencies.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and qualifications:
- Knowledge of emergency management principles, theories, and practices;
- Strong project management abilities;
- Effective communication skills;
- Capacity to collaborate with diverse groups on complex projects;
- Willingness to assist with various projects and initiatives across the emergency management spectrum.

The hiring salary will be based on experience.

Minimum Qualifications

A combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management, Public Administration, or a related field is required. A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in emergency management, disaster mitigation, preparedness, and/or emergency response/recovery activities is essential.

Prior experience in emergency management at the local, state, or federal level is preferred. Certifications such as Virginia Professional Emergency Manager (PEM) or International Association of Emergency Managers Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) are also preferred.
