About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Communications Specialist to provide overall communications support to our health and human services departments. As a key member of our Public Affairs and Communications team, you will help plan and implement a broad range of communication activities and produce communication collateral and resources that support the departments needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement communications plans to promote an informed and engaged public, with an emphasis on reaching underserved and vulnerable populations.
  • Produce high-quality content, including news releases, digital and print materials, photography, and video production, in accordance with our brand standards.
  • Edit and maintain the health and human services departments content on our website.
  • Collaborate with department subject matter experts and our Public Affairs and Communications team to develop internal and external communications plans.
  • Coordinate publicity plans for programs, activities, events, and services.
  • Develop key messages for target audiences and disseminate those messages through various communication channels.
  • Research and synthesize complex information to inform communications plans, strategies, and content.
  • Coordinate public events and special projects as assigned.
  • Support community education and outreach activities to raise public awareness of programs and available benefits.
  • Support media relations activities, including coordinating interviews with subject matter experts and providing public information.
  • Support emergency and crisis communication activities on behalf of the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks.
