Department Overview:

The Inpatient Nurse Transport Team (INTT) at Duke is a specialized group of nurses committed to delivering outstanding care during patient transfers within the hospital. The primary duties of the INTT include providing individualized nursing care during non-ICU transports to various diagnostic or interventional procedures, ensuring continuity of care through assessment, cardiac monitoring, medication administration, and addressing any patient needs during transport. This service allows primary nurses to focus on their assigned patients.

Work Schedule:

Candidates must be available to work three shifts per week. Weekend shifts are not required.

Available shifts include Nights from 7 PM to 7 AM or Days from 9 AM to 9 PM, with flexibility needed for covering shifts during vacations.

Position Summary:

As a Registered Nurse or Clinical Nurse II within the Duke University Health System, your primary focus will be on delivering exceptional service while attending to the holistic needs of patients in a patient-centered environment. Responsibilities include providing and overseeing comprehensive nursing care, utilizing the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to meet departmental goals. You will plan and deliver advanced or specialized nursing care for patients, guided by the DUHS Professional Practice model, and engage in educational activities, departmental committees, research projects, or other health-related initiatives as assigned. Nursing services will be provided to patients and families in accordance with the scope defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, while adhering to all relevant local, state, and federal regulations.

Physical Requirements:

This role involves walking, lifting, and physical exertion, including the operation of medical equipment. A full range of motion is necessary, and the ability to transport patients to various locations within the hospital is required.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program (Bachelor's Degree, Associate's Degree, or Nursing Diploma) is required.
  • Registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing must enroll in a BSN program within two years of hire and complete it within five years.

Licensure and Certification:

  • Current registration with the North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse or current compact RN licensure for North Carolina is required.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications are required (training will be provided if hired).
  • Professional specialty certification is preferred.
