Overview:

The Senior Mechanical Estimation Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing a team of estimators tasked with the evaluation, estimation, and formulation of mechanical bids and proposals. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of construction projects and their technical intricacies to ensure precision and excellence in all estimations. The ideal candidate will be proactive in identifying potential risks and costs associated with the technical elements of projects. Engage in bid assessments, constructability evaluations, and adherence to performance standards and specifications. A keen eye for detail and a robust knowledge of HVAC regulations are essential. An outstanding Senior Mechanical Estimation Manager should excel in interpreting architectural plans and possess exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate across departments to identify bidding opportunities, delivering comprehensive MEPF solutions to clients.
  • Maintain open communication with management regarding estimating, bidding, and procurement strategies.
  • Oversee the scheduling of estimating tasks within the company.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to estimators as needed.
  • Analyze blueprints to extract duct and piping requirements using specialized bidding software.
  • Assess the quantity, type, and cost of materials and equipment necessary for each mechanical project.
  • Evaluate labor requirements for project completion.
  • Analyze the potential profitability of mechanical projects to support informed bidding decisions.
  • Offer innovative Value Engineering (VE) suggestions to enhance project profitability.
  • Prepare and submit competitive project bids in line with established protocols.
  • Regularly update cost databases to reflect changes in material and labor expenses.
  • Evaluate whether constructing mechanical components in-house or subcontracting is more feasible.
  • Assist the Superintendent and Project Manager in aligning construction plans with estimating assumptions.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers and team members to provide necessary support and technical expertise.
  • Contribute to the development of cost estimates for other departments as required.
  • Solicit and secure bids from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Negotiate pricing with suppliers and subcontractors to optimize project costs.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of various project types and specifications.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers and company leadership to assess post-construction project performance and refine future estimating strategies.
  • Foster positive relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and team members involved in the bidding process.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional focus on details is crucial for interpreting blueprints accurately.

  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Conceptual Thinking: Ability to engage with abstract ideas and concepts.
  • Familiarity with Trimble AutoBid is advantageous.
  • Experience in estimating large-scale commercial and industrial mechanical piping and sheet metal projects is preferred.
  • Certification from the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE) is a plus but not mandatory.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience is required, with 10+ years preferred.
  • Proficiency in using company computers and relevant software.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with team members.
