Senior Mechanical Estimation Manager

Overview:
The Senior Mechanical Estimation Manager plays a pivotal role in guiding a team of estimators to meticulously assess, estimate, and formulate mechanical bids and proposals. This position demands a comprehensive understanding of construction projects and their technical components to ensure utmost precision and quality, while proactively identifying risks and cost implications associated with the project's technical elements. You will engage in bid evaluations, constructability assessments, and ensure compliance with performance standards and specifications. A keen eye for detail and extensive knowledge of HVAC regulations are essential. An exemplary Senior Mechanical Estimation Manager should excel in interpreting architectural plans and exhibit exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Core Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with various departments within the organization to present comprehensive MEPF solutions to clients.
- Communicate effectively with management regarding estimating, bidding, and procurement strategies.
- Oversee the scheduling of estimating activities within the company.
- Guide, mentor, and supervise assigned estimators.
- Analyze blueprints to extract duct and piping specifications using our estimation software.
- Assess the quantity, type, and cost of materials and equipment necessary for each mechanical project.
- Evaluate labor requirements for project completion.
- Analyze the potential profitability of mechanical projects to support management in making informed bidding decisions.
- Provide innovative Value Engineering (VE) solutions to enhance project profitability.
- Prepare and submit competitive project bids in line with established protocols.
- Regularly update cost databases to reflect changes in material and labor expenses.
- Evaluate labor and material costs to determine the feasibility of constructing mechanical components in-house versus subcontracting.
- Assist the Superintendent and Project Manager in formulating the overall construction plan for awarded projects, ensuring alignment with estimating assumptions.
- Maintain effective communication with project managers and other stakeholders to offer necessary assistance and technical support.
- Support the development of cost estimates for other departments as needed.
- Solicit and secure bids from subcontractors and material suppliers.
- Negotiate pricing with suppliers and subcontractors to optimize job costs.
- Possess a working knowledge of various project types and specifications.
- Collaborate with project managers and company leadership to assess post-construction project performance concerning estimating strategies for future endeavors.
- Foster positive relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and company personnel involved in various bids.
· Utilize company-provided technology and various Microsoft applications to communicate effectively and accomplish assigned tasks.
Key Competencies and Qualifications:
· Accountability - Demonstrate responsibility and ownership of actions.
· Accuracy - Execute work with precision and thoroughness.
· Attention to Detail - A mechanical estimator must be exceptionally detail-oriented to capture all elements of a blueprint.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills are crucial for ensuring accurate calculations that maintain job profitability.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities are necessary to submit project bids punctually, even when managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Communication - Possess outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
· Conceptual Thinking - Ability to conceptualize abstract ideas.
· Familiarity with Trimble AutoBid is advantageous.
· Experience in estimating large-scale commercial and industrial mechanical piping and sheet metal projects is preferred.
· Certification from the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE) is beneficial but not mandatory.
· A minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience is required, with 10+ years being ideal.
· Proficient in using company computers and software related to the role.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with team members.
Physical Requirements:
· The role may involve sitting, handling items, and typing to complete paperwork and perform administrative tasks. Occasional walking, standing, talking, and listening may be required.
