About the Role

The Sheriff's Office is seeking a dedicated professional to join their team as a Forensic Evidence Technician.

The primary mission of the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office is to safeguard life and property while delivering service, security, and safety to the community. The Forensic Evidence Technician is integral to this mission. Responsibilities include processing evidence and responding to various crime scenes, such as homicides, firearm assaults, stabbings, and suspicious deaths, with the potential to provide testimony in court.

Under general supervision, this role involves specialized investigative tasks related to the collection, preservation, and analysis of evidence, along with other related duties as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process and analyze evidence from crime scenes.
  • Respond to multiple crime scenes and document findings.
  • Maintain the integrity of evidence through proper collection and preservation techniques.
  • Testify in court regarding evidence handling and findings.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
A combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. A typical qualification includes:

Graduation from high school or possession of a G.E.D. along with three years of experience in a government-operated law enforcement agency, focusing on crime scene investigations, photographic documentation, evidence collection, and fingerprint analysis.

Licenses and Certificates:
A valid driver's license is required at the time of application. A valid California driver's license must be obtained upon appointment and maintained throughout employment.
