Healthcare Customer Service Specialist

Location: Roseland/Chicago Lawn
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:30pm, Weekend Rotation
We are looking for a dedicated and service-oriented individual to join our organization as a Healthcare Customer Service Specialist. The ideal candidate will be responsible for executing various patient intake, appointment scheduling, front desk operations, and customer support tasks. Furthermore, the specialist will verify insurance details, address complaints, troubleshoot potential customer concerns, and deliver essential customer service functions to meet high performance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Welcome patients and visitors with professionalism and courtesy
- Register patients by confirming demographic and insurance details
- Schedule appointments and manage appointment calendars
- Respond to incoming calls and direct them to the relevant department or staff member
- Confirm insurance eligibility and coverage
- Collect co-payments and outstanding balances
- Address patient complaints and resolve issues promptly and professionally
- Uphold patient confidentiality and privacy
- Perform basic administrative tasks such as filing, faxing, and scanning documents
- Comply with all HIPAA regulations and guidelines
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting or customer service role preferred
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and electronic medical records (EMR) systems
- Familiarity with medical terminology and insurance billing preferred
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team

Requirements
- High School diploma or its equivalent, Associate Degree preferred.
- Experience as a medical office assistant with a minimum of 1 to 2 years' experience.
- Certification and/or experience in billing and coding preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and automated office experience preferred.
- Computer literacy required.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting.
- Ability to maintain effective and professional relationships with patients and other members of the care team.
- Comfort working in a medical environment as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with a diverse population base preferred.
- Ability to appropriately handle confrontation and conflict.
- Ability to work independently and seek consultation as necessary.
- Ability to follow organizational and departmental processes and procedures.
- Ability to thrive in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
