Position Overview:

The Clinical Nutrition Educator exhibits exceptional clinical proficiency in the field and is responsible for developing, organizing, and delivering relevant competency-based orientation and educational initiatives for both new and existing personnel, aimed at enhancing skills and improving overall effectiveness.

This role involves providing leadership in the educational framework and the evolution of care, with a focus on delivering quality care and adhering to best practices. The educator is tasked with orienting newly hired dietitian staff and ensuring a seamless integration into the department's workforce and practice environment. Collaboration with the leadership team is essential to identify and address the educational needs of staff in a cost-efficient manner. The educator serves as a resource and subject matter expert in clinical nutrition services, which may be extended to all associated hospital and clinic facilities. Responsibilities also include auditing dietitians' documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) and providing coaching for improvement. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Qualifications:
A Master's Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or a related field is mandatory.

For those with Registered Dietitian (RD) certification obtained prior to January 1, 2024, a Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or a related field is required, with a Master's Degree in Nutrition being preferred.

A minimum of three years of clinical nutrition experience is essential.

Skills and Knowledge:

Comprehensive knowledge of clinical nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, advanced practice (nutrition support), and the scope of practice is required, along with an understanding of adult and child learning principles and evidence-based standards of practice.

Familiarity with regulatory requirements from The Joint Commission (TJC), Title 22, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is necessary.

Proficiency in reading, writing legibly, and speaking in English at a professional level is expected, along with the ability to utilize computer systems, printers, and necessary software programs, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Computrition, and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems. Basic troubleshooting of office equipment is also required.

The ability to travel to offsite facilities as needed is important. The educator should be capable of fostering teamwork and collaboration among colleagues.

Effective communication skills are essential, allowing for positive and professional interactions with others; assertiveness in policy enforcement; and the ability to remain calm and courteous under pressure. Leadership, supervision, teaching, delegation, and collaboration skills are critical, along with the ability to accept direction.

The ability to work independently with limited supervision, execute responsibilities efficiently, and maintain attention to detail is necessary.

Capable of hearing for general conversation and seeing adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and other documents pertinent to the role.

The educator should be skilled in training staff and students in a manner that promotes learning, understanding, and growth, providing constructive feedback and fostering a supportive learning environment. Holding staff accountable and ensuring timely follow-up when corrective actions are needed is part of the role.

Certifications:
Certification from the Commission on Dietetic Registration is required.

Specialized Board Certification:

Candidates must possess a Board Specialist Certification such as CDE (Certified Diabetes Educator), CNSC (Certified Nutrition Support Clinician), CSR (Certified Specialist in Renal Nutrition), CSO (Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition), CSG (Certified Specialist in Geriatric Nutrition), CSOWM (Certified Specialist in Obesity & Weight Management), or RDN-AP (Advanced Practitioner Certification).

CCS paneling is also required.
