Position Overview:
This role is designated for local candidates only.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, manage, and enhance the company's import and export workflows in alignment with relevant regulations, procedures, and corporate policies.

Create internal standard operating procedures (SOPs) and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) for effective management of inbound freight, ensuring timely recovery and handover to brokers.

Collaborate with the sales team to establish customer-specific import handling protocols.
Ensure precise documentation and data submission to appropriate governmental entities for all import activities.

Respond promptly to inquiries from customs, customers, and internal stakeholders regarding classification, duty rates, documentation requirements, and other import regulations.

Act as a representative for customers in dealings with customs authorities as necessary.
Keep abreast of current information and ensure adherence to customs regulations and other governmental agency requirements.

Incorporate this knowledge into departmental processes and provide training to employees on import compliance and regulatory updates.

Organize, update, and disseminate all relevant data, including rate agreements, Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications, power of attorney (POA), customs bond information, etc.

Coordinate transportation, warehousing, or distribution of imported goods based on transit times and optimal profit margins. Negotiate contracts and rates with logistics providers.
Prepare monthly reports for management
Conduct staff training and onboarding for new employees
Perform entry audits
Assist with accounts receivable collections as needed
Customs Brokerage Duties

The Import Manager oversees customs brokerage activities and serves as the broker of record for all customs functions, including:

Acting as the licensed broker for The Swatch Group U.S.

Key Interactions:
Liaise with government agencies and foster positive relationships.
Maintain customer bond and power of attorney files.
Execute post-entry functions, including applying for tariff concessions, refunds, duty drawbacks, and resolving issues with customs and other governmental entities.
Ensure the audit program is effectively managed and compliance is consistently upheld:
Conduct audits and evaluate import compliance for every file serviced by customs authorities.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Responsible for leading the Import Team, executing supervisory duties in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities include recruiting, hiring, and training staff; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving issues.


Qualifications:
Strong focus on compliance with a solid understanding of country-specific import/export regulations
Experience interacting with U.S. Customs, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, and FDA
Foreign Trade Zone experience is advantageous
Experience with drawback and reconciliation processes is required
Previous experience with large database systems, ERPs, and/or WMS systems is essential.
A Bachelor’s degree is required; a college degree is preferred.
A minimum of five years of experience in import and export management is necessary.

Additional Experience:
At least three years of supervisory or management experience leading teams in an import/export setting.
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
Familiarity with self-filing, ABI systems, and self-filing software packages (preferably EDI Trade)
Export experience to the Caribbean is a plus
Proficient in SAP
