Position Overview:
This role is intended for local candidates only.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead the development, oversight, and continuous enhancement of the company's import and export workflows, ensuring adherence to relevant regulations and internal policies.

Formulate internal standard operating procedures (SOPs) and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to optimize the management of inbound freight, ensuring timely recovery and handover to brokers.

Collaborate with the sales team to establish customer-specific import handling protocols.

Guarantee the accuracy of documentation and timely data submission to governmental bodies for all import activities.

Respond promptly to inquiries from customs, customers, and internal stakeholders regarding classification, duty rates, documentation needs, and other import regulations.

Act as a liaison with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as necessary.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of CBP regulations and ensure compliance across departmental processes, providing training to staff on import compliance and regulatory changes.

Organize and disseminate critical data, including rate agreements, Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications, and customs bond information.

Coordinate transportation, warehousing, or distribution of imported goods based on transit times and profitability.

Negotiate contracts and rates with logistics providers.

Prepare monthly reports for management review.

Conduct staff training and onboarding for new employees.

Perform entry audits and assist with accounts receivable collections as needed.


Customs Brokerage Duties:

The Import Manager will oversee customs brokerage activities and serve as the broker of record for all customs functions, being accountable to US Customs.

Maintain positive relationships with government agencies and manage customer bond and power of attorney documentation.

Handle post-entry functions, including applications for tariff concessions, refunds, and duty drawbacks, while resolving issues with customs and other agencies.

Ensure ongoing compliance through regular audits and assessments of import practices.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise the Import Team, executing responsibilities in alignment with organizational policies and legal requirements.

Responsibilities include recruiting, training, and evaluating team members; planning and assigning tasks; and addressing employee performance and concerns.


Qualifications:

Strong focus on compliance with a thorough understanding of import/export regulations.

Experience with US Customs, US Fish and Wildlife, and FDA regulations is essential.

Experience with Foreign Trade Zones is preferred.

Proficiency in drawback and reconciliation processes is required.

Familiarity with large database systems, ERPs, and/or WMS systems is necessary.

A bachelor's degree is required; a college degree is preferred.

A minimum of five years of experience in import/export operations is mandatory, including three or more years in a supervisory role.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential.

Experience with self-filing, ABI systems, and EDI Trade software is preferred.

Export experience to the Caribbean is a plus.

Proficiency in SAP is required.

Must be performance-driven, highly organized, detail-oriented, and possess a passion for logistics.

Licensure as a US customs broker is mandatory.
