Position Overview:

Key Responsibilities

Develop, manage, and enhance the import and export processes in alignment with applicable regulations and company policies.

Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure efficient inbound freight management.

Collaborate with the sales team to establish tailored import handling protocols for customers.
Ensure accurate documentation and timely communication with relevant governmental bodies for all import activities.

Respond promptly to inquiries from customs, clients, and internal teams regarding classification, duty rates, and documentation requirements.

Act as a liaison with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as necessary.
Stay informed about CBP regulations and ensure compliance across all operations.

Train employees on import compliance and regulatory updates to maintain a knowledgeable workforce.

Organize and disseminate critical data, including rate agreements, Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications, and customs bond information.

Coordinate transportation, warehousing, and distribution of imported goods based on efficiency and profitability. Negotiate contracts and rates with logistics providers.
Prepare monthly reports for management
Facilitate staff training and onboarding for new hires
Conduct entry audits
Support accounts receivable collections as needed
Customs Brokerage Responsibilities:
The Import Manager oversees customs brokerage activities and serves as the broker of record, responsible for compliance with U.S. Customs regulations.

Key Duties Include:
Maintain positive relationships with government agencies.
Manage customer bond and power of attorney documentation.
Execute post-entry functions, including tariff concessions and duty drawbacks, while resolving issues with customs and other agencies.
Oversee the audit program to ensure ongoing compliance:
Conduct audits and evaluate import compliance for all files serviced by CBP.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Lead the Import Team, ensuring adherence to organizational policies and legal standards.

Responsibilities encompass recruiting, training, and evaluating team members; planning and delegating tasks; assessing performance; and addressing any issues that arise.


Qualifications:
Strong focus on compliance with a solid understanding of import/export regulations
Experience interacting with U.S. Customs, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, and FDA
Familiarity with Foreign Trade Zones is preferred
Experience with drawback and reconciliation processes is essential
Proficiency in large database systems, ERPs, and/or WMS
A bachelor's degree is required; a college degree is preferred
A minimum of five years of experience in import/export operations is required.

Additional Experience:
At least three years of supervisory or management experience in an import/export setting.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Familiarity with self-filing, ABI systems, and EDI Trade software is advantageous
Export experience to the Caribbean is a plus
Proficient in SAP
Results-oriented and highly organized
Detail-oriented with a strong process focus
A genuine passion for logistics and commitment to excellence
Licensed U.S. customs broker is a requirement
