Position Overview:
This role is intended for local candidates only.
Visa sponsorship is not available.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, manage, and enhance the company's import and export workflows in alignment with applicable regulations, procedures, and corporate policies.
Create internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for effective management of inbound freight, ensuring timely recovery and handover to brokers.
Collaborate with the sales team to establish customer-specific import handling protocols.Ensure the accuracy of documentation and timely data submission to relevant governmental bodies for all import activities.
Provide prompt responses to inquiries from customs, customers, and internal stakeholders regarding classification, duty rates, documentation requirements, and other import regulations.
Act as a representative for customers before Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as necessary.Keep abreast of current information and ensure compliance with CBP and other governmental regulations.
Integrate this knowledge into departmental processes and ensure staff training on import compliance and regulatory updates.
Organize, update, and distribute all relevant data, including rate agreements, Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications, Power of Attorney (POA), IRS, and Customs Bond information.
Coordinate transportation, warehousing, or distribution of imported goods based on transit times and optimal profit margins. Negotiate contracts and rates with delivery agents.Prepare monthly reports for management
Conduct staff training and onboarding for new employees
Perform entry audits
Assist with accounts receivable collections as needed
Customs Brokerage Duties
The Import Manager oversees customs brokerage activities and serves as the broker of record for all customs functions, being:
Accountable to US Customs as the Licensed Broker for The Swatch Group U.S.
Responsibilities Include:
Liaising with government agencies and fostering positive relationships.
Maintaining customer bond and power of attorney documentation.
Executing post-entry functions, including applying for tariff concessions, refunds, duty drawbacks, and credits, while resolving all customs-related issues.
Managing the audit program to ensure ongoing compliance:
Conducting audits and evaluating import compliance for every file serviced by CBP.
Supervisory Duties
Responsible for leading the Import Team, executing supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities encompass interviewing, hiring, and training staff; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; and resolving issues.
Qualifications:
A strong focus on compliance and a solid understanding of country-specific import/export regulations
Experience with US Customs, US Fish and Wildlife, and FDA regulations is essential
Foreign Trade Zone experience is preferred
Experience with Drawback and Reconciliation is required
Prior experience with large database systems, ERPs, and/or WMS systems is necessary.
A Bachelor's degree is required; a college degree is preferred.
A minimum of five years of experience in import and export operations is mandatory.
Included in this experience:
At least three years of supervisory or management experience leading teams in an import/export context.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Familiarity with self-filing, ABI systems, and self-filing software packages (preferably EDI Trade)
Export experience to the Caribbean is advantageous
