POSITION STATUS: Adjunct Faculty

REPORTS TO: Chair, Department of Medical Sciences

JOB SUMMARY: Under the guidance of the Chair of the Department of Medical Sciences, adjunct faculty members are engaged in a contractual teaching role with a primary focus on delivering high-quality instruction. Faculty are responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating educational experiences for students in both classroom and laboratory environments, aligning with established course objectives. Commitment to serving the University of Saint Francis (USF) student body and community is essential. To ensure a consistent quality experience throughout the university, adherence to the USF Way, as outlined in the Employee Handbook, is expected.

Key Responsibilities:

Instructing both in-person and online courses for undergraduate students in areas such as Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, and Pathophysiology.

Teaching & Related Activities:

The core responsibility of the faculty member is effective teaching. Faculty are expected to:

  • Deliver courses in accordance with the catalog description and content outline.
  • Conduct classes at the designated times and locations while meeting required contact hours.
  • Incorporate evidence-based practices in all aspects of faculty responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with peers for instructional enhancement through professional review.
  • Timely submission of reports and information requests.
  • Uphold the university's Code of Ethics and professional standards.
  • Utilize appropriate teaching methodologies to foster student learning.
  • Create a conducive learning atmosphere for students.
  • Communicate effectively with students.
  • Encourage critical thinking and innovation among students.
  • Provide prompt feedback and evaluate student progress fairly.
  • Assess student performance in labs and classrooms, offering guidance to promote success.
  • Develop strategies to enhance student performance.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, including test scores and attendance.
  • Adjust assignments as necessary at the discretion of the Department Chair.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

A master's degree with at least 18 graduate credit hours in biology, biomedical sciences, or a closely related field; or substantial knowledge and a minimum of five years of experience in a relevant area, along with teaching or instructional experience pertinent to the assigned courses.

Knowledge and Skills:

Demonstrates a solid understanding of educational theories, instructional methods, evaluation techniques, and the use of technology in higher education settings. Exhibits strong analytical and organizational skills necessary for planning, implementing, and evaluating educational activities to meet established goals. Possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively engage with all university stakeholders. Capable of coordinating services to meet the diverse needs of populations within the institution's time and financial constraints. Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends and university breaks, as required.
