POSITION REPORTS TO: Chair, Department of Medical Sciences

JOB SUMMARY: Under the guidance of the Chair of the Department of Medical Sciences, adjunct faculty are engaged through a contract or letter indicating adjunct employment, primarily focusing on instructional responsibilities. Faculty members are tasked with assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating educational experiences for students in both classroom and laboratory environments, aligning with established course and program objectives. Serving the University of Saint Francis (USF) student body and the broader community is of utmost importance. To ensure a uniform quality experience throughout the university, the USF Way, as detailed in the Employee Handbook, outlines the service expectations for all staff.

Major Responsibilities/Activities

Instructing on-ground and/or online sections for undergraduate courses in Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, and Pathophysiology.

Teaching & Related Activities

The core responsibility of a faculty member is to deliver effective instruction. For comprehensive details regarding classroom and clinical obligations, please refer to the USF Faculty Handbook. Faculty are expected to:

  • Deliver courses in accordance with the catalog description and content framework.
  • Conduct assigned classes at the designated times and locations, fulfilling required contact hours.
  • Incorporate evidence-based practices into all aspects of faculty responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with peers for instructional enhancement through professional peer review.
  • Timely submission of reports and information requests.
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics of the university and the profession.
  • Utilize appropriate teaching methodologies to enhance student learning experiences.
  • Create a conducive learning atmosphere for students.
  • Maintain effective communication with students.
  • Encourage critical thinking and foster innovation among students.
  • Provide prompt feedback and assess student progress fairly.
  • Evaluate student performance in laboratory and classroom settings, offering individual guidance to promote success.
  • Propose strategies to enhance student performance.
  • Keep accurate records, including test scores and attendance, to document student progress.
  • Assignments may be adjusted based on the discretion of the Department Chair.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

An earned master's degree with at least 18 graduate credit hours in biology, biomedical sciences, or a closely related field; OR sufficient knowledge, with a minimum of five years of experience in a relevant area to teach the assigned courses, along with teaching and/or instructional experience pertinent to the courses.

Knowledge and Skills:

Demonstrates an understanding of educational theories, instructional methods, evaluation techniques, and the use of technology in higher education settings. Exhibits analytical and organizational skills necessary for planning, implementing, and evaluating educational activities to ensure compliance with established goals and objectives. Possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, essential for effective interaction with all university stakeholders. Capable of working collaboratively with faculty, students, staff, administrators, and external stakeholders. Able to coordinate services to meet the needs of diverse populations within the institution's time and financial constraints. Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends and university breaks, as needed.
