Position Summary:

  • The Night Operations Supervisor will report directly to the Molding Manager and will be tasked with overseeing all night shift activities, including production, quality assurance, and maintenance, ensuring that customer timelines are met while adhering to safety, quality, and production standards.
  • This role involves addressing personnel concerns and ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures in accordance with ISO9001:2015 and IATF 16949 Quality Systems.
  • The Supervisor will also take on the responsibilities of a Molding Set-Up Technician, which includes changing molds as per the production schedule and operating various machinery such as injection molding machines and robotic systems.
  • Basic to intermediate maintenance of machinery and tools will also be part of the responsibilities, requiring effective communication with day shift maintenance staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Champion all aspects of Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality System policies, ensuring all team members comply with the company's health and safety protocols.
  • Oversee daily production line operations, ensuring that production schedules meet quality specifications and established targets.
  • Manage production staff, addressing concerns, evaluating performance, and fostering a positive work environment in line with company standards and ISO9001:2015 and IATF 16949 procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, maintaining a safe workplace through proactive inspections and immediate action on potential hazards.
  • Facilitate effective communication during shift changes to ensure seamless operations.
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives and a quality-centric mindset across all production areas.
  • Report any production, personnel, or equipment issues to the Molding Manager promptly.
  • Conduct daily equipment start-up and shut-down procedures, organize production schedules, manage personnel assignments, and monitor production supplies.
  • Oversee time and attendance management for the shift.
  • Lead daily meetings focused on safety, quality, and delivery metrics.
  • Compile production reports detailing output, machine performance, scrap rates, and downtime incidents.
  • Diagnose and address issues with injection molding machinery, including parts replacement and quality checks.
  • Assist in safety incident investigations and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Collaborate with union representatives to foster strong employee relations.
  • Ensure adherence to all operational procedures and policies, monitoring processes to guarantee proper labeling, storage, and handling of products as per the QISO9001:2015 and IATF 16949 Quality System.
  • Participate in quality audits and other reviews as required.
  • Encourage ongoing improvements in all operational areas.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Fulfill ISO9001:2015 and IATF 16949 responsibilities as necessary.

Maintenance Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot, perform preventive maintenance, and repair injection molding machinery.
  • Maintain and repair industrial plastic processing equipment, including water service systems and compressed air systems.
  • Assess mechanical and electrical equipment issues, recommending and implementing repairs as needed.
  • Design and fabricate safety-related projects such as guards and platforms.
  • Execute scheduled preventive maintenance tasks as per the Preventative Maintenance Management System.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum: High school diploma with relevant work experience.
  • Preferred: Post-secondary education in a related field such as trades or technical studies.
  • Proven experience in training, supervising, and effective communication.
  • Experience in leading and mentoring other supervisors.
  • Ability to manage complex performance and disciplinary matters.
  • Manufacturing experience, particularly in the automotive sector, is preferred.
  • Experience with injection molding processes; scientific mold training is an asset.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance systems is advantageous.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial equipment, including hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, and robotics.
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in an automotive environment, leading other supervisors.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in injection molding.
