Position Summary & Reporting Structure:

  • The Night Operations Supervisor will report directly to the Molding Manager and will be responsible for managing the night shift activities and staff across production, quality assurance, and maintenance to ensure that all customer deadlines are achieved while adhering to established safety, quality, and production standards.
  • This role involves addressing any personnel issues and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures as outlined in the ISO9001:2015 and IATF 16949 Quality System.
  • The Supervisor will also take on the responsibilities of a Molding Set-Up Technician, which includes changing molds according to the production schedule and operating various machinery, including injection molding machines and associated robotics.
  • Basic to intermediate maintenance of machinery and tools will also be part of the responsibilities, ensuring optimal and safe operational conditions while maintaining clear communication with day shift maintenance teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote and enforce all aspects of Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality System policies, ensuring compliance among all employees.
  • Oversee daily production line operations, ensuring that production schedules meet customer quality specifications and targets.
  • Manage production staff, addressing concerns, evaluating performance, and fostering morale, discipline, and training in line with company standards and ISO9001:2015 and IATF 16949 procedures.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by adhering to health, safety, and environmental regulations, conducting workplace inspections, and addressing potential hazards promptly.
  • Facilitate effective communication during shift changes to ensure smooth transitions.
  • Encourage and implement continuous improvement initiatives and a quality-focused mindset across all production areas.
  • Report any production, personnel, or equipment issues to the Molding Manager.
  • Manage daily equipment start-up and shut-down processes, review production schedules, organize personnel assignments, and monitor production supplies.
  • Maintain daily attendance records and lead safety, quality, and delivery meetings for the shift.
  • Complete production reports detailing daily output, machine performance, scrap rates, and any production or safety issues.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues with injection molding machines, including parts replacement and quality checks.
  • Assist in safety incident investigations and corrective action reporting.
  • Collaborate with union representatives to foster positive employee relations.
  • Ensure adherence to all procedures and policies, monitoring processes, and proper handling of products as per the ISO9001:2015 and IATF 16949 Quality System and company safety policies.
  • Participate in quality audits and other reviews as required.
  • Promote continuous improvement in all operational areas.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Fulfill ISO9001:2015 and IATF 16949 responsibilities as necessary.

Maintenance Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot, perform preventive maintenance, and repair injection molding machines.
  • Maintain and repair industrial plastic processing equipment, including water service systems and compressed air systems.
  • Assess mechanical and electrical equipment issues, recommending and implementing repairs as feasible.
  • Design and fabricate safety solutions as needed.
  • Execute scheduled preventive maintenance tasks as per the Preventative Maintenance Management System.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum: High school diploma with relevant work experience.
  • Preferred: Post-secondary education in a related field such as trades or technical college.
  • Proven experience in training, supervision, mechanical aptitude, and effective communication.
  • Experience in leading and mentoring other supervisors.
  • Experience managing complex performance and disciplinary matters.
  • Manufacturing experience, preferably in the automotive sector.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of injection molding processes; scientific mold training is an asset.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance systems is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial equipment, including hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, and robotics.
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in an automotive environment, leading other supervisors.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in injection molding.
