Position Summary & Reporting Structure:

  • The Night Operations Supervisor will report directly to the Molding Manager and will be accountable for managing night shift activities and personnel in production, quality assurance, and maintenance to guarantee that all customer timelines are fulfilled while adhering to established safety, quality, and production standards.
  • This role involves addressing any personnel concerns and ensuring compliance with the policies and procedures outlined in the ISO9001:2015 and IATF 16949 Quality System.
  • The Supervisor will also take on the responsibilities of a Molding Set-Up Technician, which includes changing molds as per the production schedule, operating injection molding machinery, and managing part removal and degating robots.
  • Basic to intermediate machine and tool maintenance will also be part of the role to ensure safe and efficient operations, with clear communication required with day shift maintenance staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote and uphold all aspects of Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality System policies, ensuring compliance among all employees with Tiercon's health and safety protocols.
  • Oversee daily production line operations, ensuring adherence to customer production schedules and quality specifications.
  • Manage production staff, addressing concerns, evaluating performance, and fostering morale, discipline, and training in line with company and ISO9001:2015 and IATF 16949 standards.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by complying with health, safety, and environmental regulations, conducting workplace inspections, and addressing potential hazards promptly.
  • Facilitate effective communication during shift changes through proper overlap procedures.
  • Encourage continuous improvement and a quality-focused mindset across all production areas.
  • Report any production, personnel, or equipment issues to the Molding Manager.
  • Conduct daily equipment start-up and shut-down procedures, organize production schedules, manage personnel assignments, and monitor production supplies.
  • Oversee daily time and attendance records.
  • Lead daily safety, quality, and delivery meetings for the shift.
  • Complete production reports detailing daily output, machine performance, scrap rates, and downtime incidents.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues with injection molding machines, including parts replacement and quality checks.
  • Assist in safety incident investigations and corrective action reporting.
  • Collaborate with union representatives to foster positive employee and labor relations.
  • Ensure compliance with all procedures and policies, monitoring processes, and managing product labeling, storage, and handling in accordance with the ISO9001:2015 and IATF 16949 Quality System and company safety protocols.
  • Participate in quality audits, FMEAs, PPAPs, or other reviews as required.
  • Promote ongoing improvement initiatives in all operational areas.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Fulfill ISO9001:2015 and IATF 16949 responsibilities as necessary.

Maintenance Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot, perform preventive maintenance, and repair injection molding machines.
  • Maintain and repair industrial plastic processing equipment, including machine water service systems (chillers & towers) and compressed air systems.
  • Assess mechanical and electrical equipment issues, providing recommendations for repairs and implementing solutions where applicable.
  • Design and fabricate various projects, such as guards and platforms, to address safety concerns.
  • Execute scheduled equipment preventive maintenance in accordance with the Preventative Maintenance Management System.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum: High school diploma with relevant work experience.
  • Preferred: Post-secondary education in a related field such as trades or technical college.
  • Proven experience in training others, supervisory roles, mechanical aptitude, and effective communication.
  • Experience in leading and mentoring other supervisors.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex performance and disciplinary issues.
  • Manufacturing experience, particularly in the automotive sector, is preferred.
  • Experience with injection molding processes; scientific mold training is an asset.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance systems (Megamation experience is a plus).
  • Hands-on experience with industrial equipment, including hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, controls, and robotics, with a focus on preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Equivalent work experience:
    • At least 5 years of supervisory experience in an automotive environment leading other supervisors.
    • A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with injection molding.
