Position Description

The University of California Irvine (UCI) School of Medicine's Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is seeking candidates for a full-time faculty role as the Director of the Clinical Chemistry Division. The academic rank may vary (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) in the Health Sciences Clinical or Clinical X series, contingent upon clinical expertise and research involvement. Faculty in both series are responsible for patient care, educating fellows, residents, and students, engaging in public service, and contributing to scholarly endeavors. Clinical X faculty are expected to engage in more extensive research activities.

Applicants should possess substantial experience or fellowship training in clinical chemistry and hold an MD, DO, MD/PhD, or PhD degree. Candidates with an MD or DO must be board certified in Clinical Pathology, preferably also in Chemical Pathology, while those with a PhD should have ABCC board certification or eligibility. Physician candidates must qualify for a medical license in California, and PhD candidates must be eligible for a California Clinical Chemist license or its equivalent. A minimum of three years of experience managing a clinical chemistry laboratory is preferred, although qualified candidates from accredited fellowships without prior experience will also be considered.

We are looking for an exceptional clinical chemist with excellent communication and leadership abilities, a passion for clinical service, a dedication to education, and a strong track record in clinical or translational research. The successful candidate will collaborate with departmental leaders, laboratory managers, and technical staff to ensure the delivery of top-tier diagnostic services. Responsibilities will encompass oversight of the Clinical Chemistry Division at a large tertiary/quaternary care hospital and various outpatient clinics in the region.
