Community Volunteer Coordinator

Spread the Word Nevada is a nonprofit organization committed to enhancing early childhood literacy by providing books to children in underprivileged communities across Nevada. Founded in February 2001 by Laurie Hartig and Lisa Habighorst, our mission is to empower at-risk children through literacy, fostering a love for reading and improving their academic and economic prospects.
Role Summary
The Community Volunteer Coordinator plays a crucial role in cultivating a robust volunteer network and creating impactful experiences that promote a positive organizational culture.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee the recruitment, selection, and onboarding processes for volunteers across all organizational functions, including warehouse, program-specific, and event roles.
- Plan and execute the annual volunteer appreciation event to recognize and celebrate volunteer contributions.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive volunteer recognition program that fosters engagement and retention.
- Collaborate with corporate partners to organize large-scale volunteer events that benefit the community.
- Manage all aspects of volunteer intern programs, ensuring a meaningful experience for participants.
Community Outreach
- Identify and participate in community events, fairs, and festivals to promote the organization and recruit volunteers.
- Build relationships with corporations and service groups to raise awareness of volunteer opportunities.
- Deliver presentations at events to highlight the organization's volunteer needs.
- Identify potential donor opportunities through volunteer engagement and communicate these to the Development team.
Administrative Duties
- Maintain comprehensive records of volunteer opportunities, requirements, and training materials.
- Monitor and evaluate departmental performance metrics and goals.
- Research best practices in volunteer and corporate engagement to enhance program effectiveness.
- Supervise the usage of the volunteer database, ensuring all activities are accurately scheduled and recorded.
- Directly oversee the Assistant Manager of Volunteer Engagement.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Programs related to volunteer management.
Qualifications
- A degree in a relevant field and two to four years of experience in volunteer administration; a combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience in nonprofit volunteer management is preferred.
- Familiarity with volunteer management software is advantageous.

- Understanding of current trends and resources in volunteerism.
- Ability to motivate and empower individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and volunteer management software.
- Excellent public speaking and written communication skills.

Salary: $55,000 to $60,000 annually.
Reports to: Director of Programs
Supervises: Assistant Manager of Volunteer Engagement
Employment Status: Full-Time Exempt
