About the Role

The University of Dayton is seeking a visionary leader to serve as the Executive Director of the Materials Sector. As a national leader in scientific and engineering research, the University serves government, industry, and nonprofit customers, contributing to the fulfillment of its commitments to education, research, and public service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute comprehensive plans to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness
  • Oversee research portfolios, monitoring contract execution and identifying areas for improvement
  • Identify and engage high-value clients to form strategic partnerships
  • Manage sector business and financial management operations
  • Foster a culture of respect, inclusivity, and diversity, promoting servant leadership principles
Strategic Objectives
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to advance the University's mission of research excellence and technological advancement
  • Establish initiatives, set direction, and define priorities in alignment with the University's overarching strategic goals
  • Coordinate with other sectors and business offices to ensure compliance with established processes
  • Manage the sector's research portfolios, including profit and loss, and identify areas for improvement
  • Lead the capture of large and complex research contracts, and manage business development and marketing opportunities
Requirements
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field
  • Minimum of 18 years of experience related to the research, development, application, and/or transition of advanced technologies
  • Minimum 7 years of senior-level supervisory experience, with a staff of more than 30, including professional, technical, or administrative staff
  • Experience in attracting, leading, and coordinating large and complex research programs
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in a science, engineering, or technology field
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in an organization of comparable size and complexity to the Sector
  • Minimum of 10 years of senior-level supervisory experience, with a staff of more than 50, including professional, technical, or administrative staff
  • Experience in strategic planning, business management, and business development, in an organization of similar size and complexity to the Sector
