Position Summary

We are in search of a highly skilled and creative Senior Material Research Scientist to enhance our research and development efforts. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the conceptualization, creation, and analysis of sophisticated multifunctional composite materials that combine various capabilities, including structural integrity, electrical performance, thermal management, and sensing functionalities. This position requires collaboration with a diverse team of engineers, material scientists, data analysts, and AI/ML specialists to pioneer advancements in composite materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the technical strategy in collaboration with government entities and mentor junior and mid-level personnel.
  • Design and fabricate advanced multifunctional composite materials with integrated properties, including mechanical strength and electrical conductivity.
  • Conduct experimental investigations to synthesize and evaluate multifunctional composites.
  • Innovate and refine fabrication methodologies for multifunctional composites, utilizing techniques such as additive manufacturing and hybrid processes.
  • Perform comprehensive material characterization using techniques such as spectroscopy, microscopy, and thermal analysis.
  • Assess the behavior of multifunctional materials in application-relevant conditions, including extreme environments.
  • Analyze mechanical loads' effects on functional performance through rigorous testing.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate multifunctional composites into new and existing systems.
  • Interpret experimental data to inform material development and enhancement.
  • Prepare detailed technical documentation, presentations, and publications to disseminate research outcomes.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in materials science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry, physics, or a related discipline, with relevant experience.
  • Eligibility for obtaining a Top Secret security clearance.
  • Over 5 years of experience in the research and development of multifunctional composite materials.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing technical projects and teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of composite material properties and fabrication techniques.
  • Expertise in materials characterization methods such as SEM, TEM, XRD, FTIR, DSC, TGA, and AFM.
  • Familiarity with computational modeling tools for composite materials.
  • Experience with electromagnetic characterization techniques.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in aerospace, automotive, or renewable energy sectors.
  • Understanding of sustainable and eco-friendly composite materials.
  • Experience in grant writing and securing funding for research initiatives.
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing and hybrid fabrication techniques.

Compensation

The compensation for this position ranges from $130,000 to $220,000, depending on experience, location, and other relevant factors.
