Position Summary

We are in search of a Senior Material Research Scientist who is both skilled and forward-thinking to enhance our research team. The ideal candidate will spearhead the exploration, development, and evaluation of cutting-edge composite materials applicable across various sectors. This position requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to foster material advancements and ensure effective application of composite technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the technical initiatives alongside government partners and mentor junior and mid-level personnel.
  • Investigate and evaluate the performance of advanced composite materials tailored for aerospace applications.
  • Establish protocols and methodologies for testing, characterizing, and modeling composite behavior in pertinent environments.
  • Conduct tests on materials under extreme conditions, including high temperatures, chemical exposure, radiation, and hypersonic scenarios.
  • Utilize various material characterization techniques such as spectroscopy, microscopy, mechanical testing, and thermal analysis.
  • Provide both in-situ and ex-situ experimental assessments of composites, ceramics, and structural materials.
  • Execute failure analysis employing non-destructive evaluation methods.
  • Analyze and interpret data to inform the development of novel materials.
  • Draft technical documentation, presentations, and publications to disseminate research outcomes.
  • Collaborate with engineers, research scientists, data scientists, and AI/ML specialists to integrate composite materials into both new and existing systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in physics, mechanical engineering, structural engineering, materials engineering, chemistry, biochemistry, or a related discipline with a focus on composite materials, accompanied by 8 years of relevant experience, or 6 years with a Master's degree, or 3 years with a PhD.
  • Eligibility to obtain a Top Secret security clearance is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the research and development of advanced composite materials.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading technical projects and teams.
  • Proficiency in analytical techniques such as SEM, TEM, XRD, FTIR, DSC, and TGA.
  • Familiarity with computational modeling and simulation tools for composite materials, including COMSOL and ABAQUS.

Compensation

The compensation range for this position is between $130,000 and $220,000, reflecting the typical salary based on experience, location, and other relevant factors.
