POSITION SUMMARY

The Operations Supervisor will support and guide laboratory management in the daily functions of the lab, focusing on microbiological and chemical methodologies, quality control, and data interpretation within a commercial laboratory that operates year-round. This role is crucial in maintaining quality and efficiency, ensuring that daily laboratory operations align with Certified Laboratories Inc.'s operational standards while balancing supervisory and administrative responsibilities. The supervisor will also drive improvements in profitability, productivity, and overall laboratory efficiency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the Laboratory Manager and/or Operations Manager to recruit, train, motivate, and schedule laboratory personnel, fostering a culture of high quality, integrity, teamwork, and urgency.
  • Achieve proficiency in all laboratory roles.
  • Assist in developing operational budgets and analyzing reports as necessary.
  • Understand and support proficiency standards, quality control processes, and documentation across all laboratory operations.
  • Ensure result accuracy through effective data management in the LIMS system and adherence to approved laboratory protocols, with the authority to halt operations if standards are not met.
  • Work alongside the Technical Manager to ensure laboratory practices comply with quality management systems and relevant regulations.
  • Address and resolve equipment malfunctions or supply compliance issues promptly.
  • Maintain expertise in method validation, competitor methodologies, and industry regulations.
  • Continuously review and audit laboratory processes to ensure compliance with established procedures.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by managing sample and testing workflows to meet client specifications and deadlines.
  • Identify the need for retesting based on quality control issues or unusual results.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements by engaging with scientific literature and professional development opportunities.
  • Assist in prioritizing tasks to achieve both individual and team objectives while promoting collaboration within the organization.
  • Ensure a safe working environment for all personnel.
  • Complete all required training and development programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 3 years of direct experience in commercial microbiological laboratory testing and supervisory roles.
  • Strong understanding of GMPs, GLPs, and laboratory quality assurance principles; familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025 is preferred.
  • Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) is advantageous.
  • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Food Safety, or a related field is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret business publications, technical documents, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Skilled in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
  • Capable of effectively presenting information and addressing inquiries from various stakeholders.
  • Experience supervising multiple team leaders and staff members.
  • Adhere to organizational policies, standard operating procedures, and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations consistently.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and promote a harmonious workplace environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
