POSITION SUMMARY

The Operations Supervisor will assist and guide laboratory management in the daily operations of the lab, focusing on microbiological and chemical methodologies, quality control, and data interpretation in a commercial laboratory that operates year-round. This role is essential in maintaining quality and efficiency, ensuring that all laboratory activities align with Certified Laboratories Inc.'s operational standards while balancing supervisory and administrative responsibilities. The supervisor will drive improvements in profitability, productivity, and overall efficiency within the laboratory.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the Laboratory Manager and/or Operations Manager to recruit, train, engage, and empower laboratory staff, while also managing workflow, performance reviews, and professional development in line with company standards.
  • Achieve proficiency across all laboratory roles.
  • Assist in developing operational budgets and analyzing reports as necessary.
  • Understand and support quality control processes and technical standards across all laboratory functions.
  • Ensure accuracy of results through effective data management in the LIMS system and adherence to established laboratory techniques, with the authority to halt operations if standards are not met.
  • Work alongside the Technical Manager to ensure compliance with quality management systems and relevant industry standards.
  • Address and resolve equipment malfunctions or supply issues promptly.
  • Maintain knowledge of method validation, competitor practices, and industry regulations.
  • Conduct regular reviews and audits of laboratory staff and processes to ensure compliance with established procedures.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by managing sample flow and testing timelines to meet client specifications.
  • Identify needs for retesting based on quality control findings or unusual results.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements through continuous learning and professional development.
  • Assist in prioritizing tasks to achieve both individual and team objectives, encouraging collaboration within the team.
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed for oneself and others in the work area.
  • Complete all required training in a timely manner.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 3 years of direct experience in commercial microbiological laboratory testing and supervisory roles.
  • Understanding of GMPs, GLPs, and laboratory quality assurance principles; familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025 is preferred.
  • Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) is advantageous.
  • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Food Safety, or a related field is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective reporting and presentations.
  • Experience in supervising multiple team members.
