Boston, Massachusetts, United States Rosie's Place Full time
Position Overview

Rosie's Place has been a pioneer in providing essential support to women in need since its inception in 1974. Our commitment is to foster a secure and compassionate environment that empowers impoverished and homeless women to uphold their dignity, pursue opportunities, and achieve stability in their lives.

As we have evolved, we have transformed into a comprehensive community center that not only offers shelter and meals but also delivers extensive support, housing, and educational services to thousands of women annually. Our operations are sustained by the generous contributions of individuals, foundations, and corporations, as we do not rely on city, state, or federal funding.

POSITION SUMMARY

We are in search of a Director of Major Gifts to enhance our Development team. Reporting directly to the Director of Development, this role presents a remarkable opportunity to broaden our philanthropic reach by expanding an already successful major gift initiative. The Director of Major Gifts will be tasked with crafting and implementing strategies to secure substantial donations from individuals, including current supporters and identifying new prospects both within our database and externally. This role will involve identifying, nurturing, soliciting, and managing a portfolio of approximately 150 individuals. The position will be highly visible within the organization and externally, focusing on creating compelling opportunities for contributions and engaging both prospective and existing donors in our mission.

This role will also oversee the Major Gifts Officer.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Planning:

  • Formulate a detailed strategy for individual major gifts that aligns with the organization’s mission and objectives.
  • Identify potential major gift prospects and develop tailored cultivation plans for each donor.

Donor Engagement:

  • Establish and nurture strong relationships with both existing and prospective major donors, meeting with them regularly.
  • Coordinate and manage donor cultivation events, personalized meetings, and engagement initiatives.
  • Prepare and draft briefings for senior leadership and supervisors.
  • Design and implement stewardship strategies to ensure ongoing engagement and retention of major donors.

Fundraising Initiatives:

  • Collaborate with the Director of Development, senior leadership, President/CEO, and board members to involve them in donor cultivation and solicitation efforts.
  • Develop persuasive fundraising materials, proposals, and presentations tailored to major gift prospects.

Leadership and Mentorship:

  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and professional development to the Major Gifts Officer.
  • Encourage a collaborative and inclusive work environment that promotes teamwork, innovation, and excellence.

Data Management:

  • Maintain precise records of donor interactions and manage donor information using the RE/NXT system.
  • Generate regular reports to monitor progress, analyze fundraising metrics, and assess the effectiveness of strategies.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with development and leadership teams to integrate major gifts initiatives into overall fundraising strategies.
  • Engage with donors, the President/CEO, board members, and independently to cultivate relationships with potential major gift donors.
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to develop targeted messaging for major gift prospects.

Research and Prospecting:

  • Conduct research to identify new potential major gift prospects both within and outside the Rosie's Place community and evaluate their philanthropic interests.
  • Analyze donor-giving patterns and wealth indicators to prioritize and qualify prospects.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 to 7 years of demonstrated experience in fundraising or a related field.
  • A strong commitment to social justice and the mission of Rosie's Place.
  • Proven experience in major gift fundraising, with a successful track record of securing significant contributions.
  • Exceptional writing, proofreading, and computer skills.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and networking abilities.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in all situations.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage multiple projects independently and complete them efficiently.
  • Strong strategic planning and project management skills.
  • Familiarity with Raiser's Edge software and fundraising tools is preferred.
  • Flexibility to attend occasional evening meetings and weekend events as necessary.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to manage relationships with diverse groups, including board members, corporate and individual donors, vendors, and volunteers.

WORK EXPECTATIONS

We are a proactive team seeking individuals who are passionate about our mission and service to the community. The Director of Major Gifts is a full-time, exempt position. While this role may offer a hybrid work schedule, it requires on-site presence at Rosie's Place during part of the work week and regular engagement with staff, guests, and volunteers. Flexibility in on-site days is expected to participate in organizational events and fulfill other work obligations. This position will involve travel between Rosie's Place facilities and community locations.
