Since its inception in 1985, the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program has been dedicated to providing equitable and dignified access to high-quality healthcare for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in the greater Boston area. Each year, we serve over 10,000 homeless individuals, ensuring they receive comprehensive healthcare services ranging from preventive dental care to advanced cancer treatment. Our team of clinicians, case managers, and behavioral health professionals operates in more than 30 locations, focusing on some of the most vulnerable yet resilient members of our community.

Role Summary:
We are looking for an innovative and collaborative Director of Information Technology (IT) to advance our mission through state-of-the-art technology solutions.

As a key leader reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer, you will be responsible for overseeing the development and maintenance of our IT infrastructure. Your creativity and expertise will be essential in integrating technologies that empower our dedicated staff and enhance patient care. You will navigate the balance between innovation and practical considerations such as budget, security, and user-friendly design. This role offers the chance to tackle the challenge of creating impactful, high-quality technology solutions that genuinely improve healthcare accessibility and equity.


Work Schedule: 40 hours per week; Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate, implement, and upgrade technology systems to ensure operational efficiency, stability, and scalability.
  • Design and facilitate secure remote access for all program sites and staff members.
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive network security strategy, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other relevant regulations.
  • Establish and enforce hardware and software standards.
  • Create and monitor performance metrics to enhance IT service delivery.
  • Oversee data backup procedures and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Assist in the development and testing of disaster recovery plans.
  • Guide and mentor the IT technical team.
  • Manage relationships with external IT vendors and service providers.
  • Participate in on-call duties as needed.
  • Supervise the operation and maintenance of various systems, including networks, security, VOIP, virtualization, cloud infrastructure, and physical security systems.
  • Oversee IT solutions from development through implementation and ongoing support.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated success as an IT Director or in a similar capacity, with a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience and at least 5 years in a supervisory role, ideally within the healthcare or nonprofit sectors.
  • Professional certifications in network and systems architecture, ITIL/ITSM, or project management are advantageous; proficiency in supporting and administering Microsoft O365 is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of networking, including WAN technologies, routing, switching, network access controls, and wireless standards; experience with Windows networking, server administration, Active Directory, and MS Exchange.
  • Familiarity with security best practices, intrusion detection, and network monitoring.
  • Experience managing IP telephony systems.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving organizational needs with flexibility and a positive attitude.
  • Exceptional customer service skills; proven leadership and project management capabilities; excellent communication skills for diverse stakeholders.

Compensation and Benefits:
  • Compensation ranges from $105,000 to $136,500.
  • Full-time employees are eligible for a competitive time-off policy of 4 weeks' vacation, health, dental, and vision insurance, a 403B retirement savings plan with employer contributions, and a pre-tax MBTA pass program offering a 40% discount. Additionally, eligible employees may receive annual increases and an additional $7,500 added to the base salary for demonstrated bilingual proficiency, along with opportunities to collaborate with local hospitals and community health centers.
