The Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) works to support networks, schools, and families with all issues related to special education, including instruction, interventions, and legal and compliance support.

OSD provides the tools and resources to ensure that all diverse learners receive a high-quality public education that prepares students for success.

Reporting to the Director of Assessment and Assignment, the School Assignment Manager is responsible for managing school assignments for students with disabilities (Preschool - 12th grade) who require a specialized school assignment for a specific program based on the supports and services required per the IEP.

This position will ensure that students with disabilities are assigned to schools that will be able to implement the Individualized Education Programs (IEP) or 504 Plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implementation and oversight of the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) school assignment policies and procedures
  • Effectively develop and communicate clear processes and procedures related to school assignment to all stakeholders (parents, case managers, teachers, school administration, network chiefs, and OSD partners)
  • Hire, supervise, develop, and manage the performance of the School Assignment Team in thorough review of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 Plans
  • Develop and facilitate training for school-based and OSD staff regarding school assignment procedural changes to ensure transparency with all stakeholders
  • Effectively manage school enrollment database to track, monitor, and report the timeliness and appropriateness of school assignments

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Case management and/or school assignment experience required
  • Experience managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment required
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is preferred
  • Shows a demonstrated ability to effectively lead project teams and workgroups
  • Ability to foster an active, cooperative partnership among families, schools, and the community at large that promotes transparency and support
  • Ability to use data to guide work and communicate clearly to multiple stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge and experience working with CPS schools and programs for students with disabilities
  • Excellent computer skills (e.g., Google Docs, Excel) with knowledge of CPS technology programs such as IMPACT, SSM
  • Ability to organize, analyze, and share information and data
  • Knowledge of electronic management systems

The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
