The Opportunity

The role of Portfolio Manager is pivotal in establishing a new Portfolio Management function that aligns with Ally's strategic objectives and operational priorities. This position offers a unique chance to utilize your expertise in shaping the methodologies and standards that will underpin this new capability. You will collaborate with leaders across business, digital, and technology sectors, as well as with external partners.

The Work Itself

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Establishing a robust Portfolio Management function encompassing processes, tools, metrics, and templates.
  • Managing the portfolio by overseeing demand and capacity, including resource onboarding and offboarding, planning, and delivery excellence.
  • Creating and maintaining an integrated plan/roadmap for Deposit Operations, identifying process improvements, and managing risk logs and dependencies.
  • Developing quantitative criteria for assessing new and ongoing projects.
  • Consolidating status updates to generate executive-level reports and timelines, including risk assessments and readiness plans.
  • Organizing and documenting dependencies across strategic initiatives, ensuring effective communication protocols.
  • Collaborating with partners to establish metrics for tracking success against SLAs.
  • Leading a team to implement best practices in project management and ensuring compliance with established methodologies.
  • Facilitating regular updates with stakeholders to communicate project statuses and address any issues promptly.
  • Fostering a culture of collaboration, transparency, and accountability within the Integrated Business Execution team.

The Skills You Bring

To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in program or project management, with a preference for supervisory experience.
  • Relevant certifications such as PMP, CSM, or ITIL.
  • Strong partnership-building skills and the ability to consult effectively with leadership.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly with senior executives.
  • Proficiency in influencing and negotiating with business leaders to achieve organizational goals.
  • Experience in agile project environments and familiarity with project management methodologies and software development life cycles (SDLC).
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Project.
  • A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
