POSITION SUMMARY:

The Safety Manager at AM Ortega Construction plays a pivotal role in ensuring the health and safety of all employees on-site. This position is responsible for developing and implementing safety protocols that align with industry standards and regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and enhance the organization's safety program, providing training and resources to staff to minimize risks.
  • Keep management informed about updates in safety regulations and ensure compliance with OSHA and state laws.
  • Facilitate safety training for new hires and oversee ongoing safety education.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement through employee engagement in safety practices.
  • Monitor safety standards and ensure adherence to best practices in accordance with legal requirements.
  • Disseminate current OSHA and CAL-OSHA information relevant to the construction sector to all employees.
  • Address safety-related inquiries from team members and management effectively.
  • Enforce safety policies and evaluate existing practices to ensure compliance with legal standards.
  • Guarantee the safety of field personnel and the integrity of the work environment.
  • Develop and implement new Standard Operating Procedures and safety protocols.
  • Experience with HCSS software is preferred.
  • Foster teamwork and build strong relationships with field staff.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage daily tasks efficiently.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capability to comprehend and convey written and verbal instructions.
  • Dependable attendance and consistency in work schedule.
  • Experience in Civil Engineering, Underground Construction, and Paving is advantageous.
  • Proficient in incident reporting and maintaining accurate records.
  • Physical ability to lift weights between 20-50 lbs regularly, stand and walk for extended periods, and perform demanding physical tasks in challenging conditions.
  • Prior supervisory experience is essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A Bachelor's degree with 5-8 years of relevant safety experience, or a Master's degree with approximately 5 years of related experience. A minimum of 3 years in Construction Risk Management as a service provider or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Previous management experience overseeing a team of 5 or more is necessary.
