Compass Charter School Physical Education Instructor

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Physical Education Instructor to join our team at Compass Charter School. As a Physical Education Instructor, you will be responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive physical education program that promotes physical fitness, health education, and character development for students in grades K-5.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a balanced physical education program that aligns with state standards and the school's mission and vision
  • Teach content and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual, or team sports
  • Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement
  • Provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and/or group of students
  • Provide appropriate safety instruction and make safety checks on equipment and play areas to ensure the overall safety of students
  • Select and order necessary equipment and supplies for physical education classes using the school's procurement processes and predetermined budget
  • Use student performance data to tailor and differentiate instruction
  • Regularly communicate with families, students, and community partners
  • Integrate the Compass CARES values into classroom culture, units of study, and interactions with staff, families, and students
  • Integrate the real world and surrounding community into the curriculum
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
  • Maintain confidentiality with student information and records
  • Create a positive and safe classroom culture and community

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree preferred
  • 2 or more years of relevant teaching experience preferred
  • New York State Teacher Certification or in progress of obtaining certification
  • Educational philosophy aligns with the mission and vision of Compass
  • Reflective practitioner in a state of constant professional growth and a willingness to share their craft with others
  • Commitment to integrating sustainability and the arts into core curricular subjects
  • Knowledge of the school neighborhood
  • Experience working with children with special needs in an Integrated Co-teaching classroom preferred
  • Experience planning and teaching physical education classes to elementary students
  • Commitment to and knowledge of experiential and inquiry-based teaching and learning
  • Commitment to diverse learning environments
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience collaborating with children, families, colleagues, and administrators

Compensation:

  • This is a part-time, hourly consultant position for 15 hours per week at a rate of $30 to $60 an hour based on experience and education
  • This position is open to pre-service physical education teachers as well as experienced physical education teachers
