Mission: The Bronx Global Learning Institute for Girls (BGLIG) is a public, bilingual institution dedicated to educating girls in grades K-8. Our focus is on delivering a comprehensive educational experience while fostering leadership qualities and instilling core values. BGLIG aims to enhance self-esteem and cultivate global leaders across cognitive, social, emotional, and ethical dimensions. We are committed to preparing our students for college through various enrichment programs, including the performing arts.

Position Overview

At The Bronx Global Learning Institute for Girls, the Special Education Instructor embodies and promotes the institution's mission, vision, objectives, and policies within the broader educational community. The Special Education Instructor collaborates with all stakeholders to support the behavioral and personal/social development of each student in a bilingual environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):

Instructional Planning

  • Provide tailored support for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Ensure compliance with all State and Federal regulations regarding students with IEPs.
  • Utilize state standards and curriculum to design a rigorous, objective-driven educational experience.
  • Deliver direct special education services to meet the requirements of IEPs and address diverse educational needs.
  • Collaborate with the Special Education Coordinator, educators, school leaders, specialists, and families to implement and monitor IEPs.
  • Take personal accountability for the academic progress of all students.
  • Implement a coherent, research-based curriculum in partnership with the assigned Principal.
  • Adapt lesson plans for students with IEPs in an inclusive setting and execute IEPs as required.
  • Document all lesson plans, assignments, rubrics, and instructional strategies.
  • Review behavior intervention plans as mandated by Federal and State regulations.
  • Actively seek to learn new applications of technology tools.
  • Establish and manage student-centered classrooms where students engage independently and collaboratively, utilizing instruments and movement to enhance learning.

Instructional Delivery

  • Maintain thorough documentation of all lesson plans.
  • Employ consistent school-wide assignments, rubrics, and instructional materials to engage students effectively.
  • Fulfill all responsibilities associated with classroom instruction, planning, and communication to ensure student engagement.
  • Assess student achievement and progress towards learning objectives using formative and summative assessment tools.
  • Analyze academic performance through detailed data evaluation.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students regarding their progress and goal attainment.

Student Assessment

  • Complete all necessary reports promptly.
  • Utilize student data to evaluate lesson effectiveness, student achievement, and instructional improvement.

Learning Environment

  • Create and maintain a responsive learning environment that fosters safety and promotes student development.
  • Implement classroom procedures and routines that provide structure and support for students.
  • Ensure the seamless operation of all instructional functions within the classroom.

Student Support & School Culture

  • Communicate effectively and build strong relationships with students, families, colleagues, and school leaders.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by school leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Alignment with BGLIG's core values and mission.
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree in education preferred.
  • NYS special education teaching certification required.
  • Minimum of two years of special education teaching experience in elementary or middle grades with a proven record of high achievement.
  • Experience in a high-performing charter or district school is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to foster effective and collaborative relationships with a diverse staff.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Spanish is preferred.
  • Experience in a bilingual educational setting is preferred.
  • Proficient in technology use, including various G Suite applications.
