Mission: The Bronx Global Learning Institute for Girls (BGLIG) is a tuition-free, bilingual institution dedicated to empowering girls in grades K-8. Our focus is on delivering a comprehensive educational experience that fosters leadership qualities and instills core values. Position Overview

As a Special Education Instructor at The Bronx Global Learning Institute for Girls, you will embody and advocate for the institution's mission, vision, and objectives within the broader educational community. The Special Education Instructor collaborates with all stakeholders to facilitate the behavioral and personal/social development of each student in a bilingual environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):

Instructional Planning

  • Support students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant State and Federal regulations regarding students with IEPs.
  • Utilize state standards and curriculum to design a rigorous, objective-driven educational experience.
  • Deliver direct special education services to meet the needs outlined in students' IEPs.
  • Collaborate with the Special Education Coordinator, educators, school leaders, specialists, and families to implement and monitor IEPs.
  • Take personal accountability for the academic success of all students.
  • Develop a coherent, research-based curriculum in partnership with the assigned Principal.
  • Differentiate lesson plans for students with IEPs in an inclusive setting and implement IEPs as necessary.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of lesson plans, assignments, rubrics, and instructional methodologies.
  • Review behavior intervention plans in accordance with Federal and State mandates.
  • Stay informed about new technologies and their applications in education.
  • Create and manage student-centered classrooms where learners engage independently and collaboratively, utilizing various artistic expressions to enhance the curriculum.

Instructional Delivery

  • Document all lesson plans thoroughly.
  • Employ consistent school-wide assignments, rubrics, and instructional materials to engage students effectively.
  • Fulfill all responsibilities associated with classroom instruction, planning, and communication to ensure student engagement.
  • Assess student achievement and progress towards learning objectives using formative and summative assessment tools.
  • Analyze student performance data to evaluate academic achievement.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students regarding their progress and goal attainment.

Student Assessment

  • Complete all required reports promptly.
  • Utilize student data to assess lesson effectiveness, student achievement, and instructional improvement.

Learning Environment

  • Establish and maintain a responsive learning environment that fosters safety and supports student development.
  • Implement classroom procedures and routines that provide structure for students.
  • Ensure the seamless operation of all instructional functions within the classroom.

Student Support & School Culture

  • Communicate effectively and build strong relationships with students, families, colleagues, and school leaders.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by school leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Alignment with BGLIG's core values and mission.
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree in education preferred.
  • NYS special education teaching certification mandatory.
  • Minimum of two years of special education teaching experience in elementary or middle grades with a proven record of high student achievement.
  • Experience in a high-performing charter or district school is preferred but not required.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to cultivate effective collaborative relationships with a diverse staff.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Spanish is preferred.
  • Experience in a bilingual educational setting is preferred.
  • Proficient in technology use, including various G Suite educational tools.
