Since its inception in 2010, Challenge Preparatory Charter School (Challenge Prep) has been dedicated to delivering a successful educational experience for students and families in Far Rockaway, Queens. We proudly serve over 1200 scholars from Kindergarten through 12th grade across multiple campuses.

Our mission is to equip students from the greater Far Rockaway community with the skills necessary to excel academically, master the NY State Learning Standards, and fulfill their career aspirations. Challenge Prep fosters the intellectual, aesthetic, social, emotional, and ethical growth of its students, preparing them to become responsible citizens in the 21st century.
Role Overview
Teachers will report directly to the Principal. The Physical Education and Health Instructor is expected to be innovative and adaptable while ensuring that students engage in a comprehensive and challenging program. In addition to teaching core subjects, the instructor will also be responsible for leading an advisory class, an elective, or coaching a sports program to support the holistic development of each student.
Key Responsibilities
The faculty at Challenge Charter High School is committed to instilling values of scholarship, respect, honesty, courage, and balance within a collaborative, technology-enhanced, and inclusive environment. Teachers are expected to assist all students in their subject areas, advisories, and electives, enabling them to reach their full potential by focusing on individual aspirations and strengths.
Planning for diverse learners, including English Language Learners and students with disabilities, is essential to ensure all students achieve mastery.
Professional Development Opportunities
Teachers will have the chance to engage in various activities, including:
- After-school and/or Saturday tutoring, sports, enrichment, arts, and family programs
- Participation in in-house committees for special programs
- Professional development initiatives such as inquiry work, intervisitations, common planning, Socratic Seminar training, and collaborative discussions
Given the multifaceted nature of roles in smaller educational institutions, serious consideration will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience and/or a commitment to the school's mission and core values, as well as a willingness to engage in the following:
- Collaborating with colleagues to develop unit plans and interim assessments
- Sharing effective teaching strategies
- Visiting peer classrooms, analyzing student data, and refining best practices that enhance literacy and critical thinking across all subjects

- Effective oral and written communication skills with colleagues, parents, students, industry partners, and the community
As part of the application process, candidates must submit a teaching portfolio that may include evidence of their educational philosophy, curriculum planning documents, lesson plans, and teaching artifacts. Additionally, three professional references are required, including one from a direct supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required; a Master's degree and certification in the relevant content area preferred. Candidates with dual licensure in physical education and health are preferred. A strong motivation to teach students from underserved communities and a commitment to closing the achievement gap are essential. Teaching experience in an urban school setting is preferred.
