Position Overview:

This role primarily focuses on outpatient settings, where the Registered Dietitian will be responsible for delivering, executing, and documenting medical nutrition therapy assessments and plans. This includes providing education and evaluation to patients, residents, clients, and affiliated entities, including community and contractual services.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and enhance skills and knowledge to deliver optimal nutrition care; collaborate with peers and food service personnel to ensure the effective implementation of established care plans.
  • Participate in auditing activities as directed, including chart reviews, test trays, and meal rounds. Ensure adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures, as well as compliance with all regulatory requirements, including State DOH Long Term Care and JCAHO Standards.

Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor's Degree in a nutrition-related field. Completion of a Dietetic Internship is required. If RD-eligible, candidates must pass the RD exam within six months of hire. A Master's Degree is preferred.

Licensure:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Active maintenance of registration through continuing education is required. Membership in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is preferred. Within one year of employment, candidates must begin and complete CDN certification with NYS, if required for job responsibilities. A Medicare provider number is preferred.


Experience:

Preferred candidates will have at least one year of relevant experience.


Skills:
  • Proficient in all aspects of nutrition care, with basic computer skills, preferably in Microsoft applications.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and possess strong interpersonal skills to manage confidential information and sensitive situations.
  • Collaborate effectively with peers and supervisors to enhance overall team productivity.

Essential Functions:
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with patients, residents, customers, and colleagues, utilizing AIDET principles and a positive demeanor. Address customer issues and concerns promptly, escalating to supervisors as necessary.
  • Demonstrate sound clinical reasoning in synthesizing complex assessment data, identifying diagnoses, and developing comprehensive care plans in alignment with departmental standards and best practices.
  • Document individualized patient education and counseling in a timely manner.
  • Meet productivity standards for care, including face-to-face contact, screenings, consultations, and chart reviews.
  • Foster a positive learning environment for staff and students by effectively communicating regulations and providing opportunities for improvement in documentation and education.
  • Provide clinical education experiences for students and volunteers, serving as a positive role model and mentor for dietetic interns.
  • Engage in outreach and educational activities as requested, which may include in-services on relevant topics, generating referrals, and conducting nutrition classes.
  • Adhere to facility and departmental infection control policies and procedures.
  • Follow protocols for hazardous materials and waste management.
  • Participate in emergency programs and drills as appropriate.
  • Comply with life safety programs during fire drills.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold patient rights as outlined in HIPAA policies.

Additional Duties:
  • Perform other assigned duties as necessary.
  • Utilize proper body mechanics to prevent injuries.
  • Exhibit effective time management skills, completing tasks punctually.
  • Demonstrate safe working habits, including wearing slip-resistant shoes in kitchen areas.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment.
  • Be available to work on a rotation schedule, including weekends and holidays as assigned.
  • Adhere to dress code and maintain good personal hygiene practices.

Compensation:
The pay for this position ranges from $25.10 to $39.77 per hour.
